"Hammond" might as well not even exist. :/

I’m not usually one to nit-pick about something like this, but it kinda urks me.

The new hero “Wrecking Ball” might as well had been released as just a Wrecking Ball with AI capabilities, no Hamster needed.

The hero is supposedly meant to be all about Hammond the hamster, yet the actual hero name is “Wrecking Ball”… the piloted mech that he drives; seriously? We might as well call D.Va “Flying Mech”. Sure D.Va’s real name is not actually “D.Va”, it’s her code name but it’s still much better than “Flying Mech” and it provides much more insight on her character and is a lot more unique. We want our hero’s to be known for the actual living part of them, not the weapon/vehicle that they use, that is not the hero, that is what they use give a taste of what the hero is all about; you shouldn’t completely ignore what makes the Wrecking Ball possible by making it seem like Hammond is just some random thing that you guys threw in there and ignored.

The automated voice of the actual escape-pod actually speaks a lot yet and it doesn’t even say the name “Hammond”, not once. It refers to calling Hammond “The Hamster”… Really? What Hamster? The one from G-Force? The one from Wonder Pets? The one from Kim Possible? Gee I don’t know, but who cares, right? Maybe it’s because Hammond is speaking through the Wrecking Ball but it really doesn’t feel like it, when I play D.Va I feel like I’m playing D.Va just in her Mech, when I play Hammond I feel like I’m playing a boring old typical robot with an automated voice; the only time I ever get a feel for the cute little Hamster and what type of personality he has is when I’m looking at his Highlight Intro’s, makes me sad.

His champion name is Wrecking Ball. It’s not the name of the mech. We don’t say D.va is the name of Hana’s mech.

The artists have already stated Hammond prefers to be called Wrecking Ball because that’s who he discovered he is. That’s the name he made for himself, the first thing that was his choice.

D.va is also the name she chose for herself. Hana is not her mech, and Hammond is not his pod.

That’s a common misconception with wrecking ball. The mech actually is driving the hamster.

Hammond was his “slave name” and he didn’t want to be that way anymore. He wanted to be a strong, independent hamster that kicked butt using his brains and ball…s. That’s some pretty significant character development. What does D.Va have to show? “Oh I shout gamer phrases in an annoying voice and jump out sometimes for fan service.”

You know why we DON’T call D.Va “FLYING MECH”?

THE MECH DOESN’T HAVE AN AI! Wrecking Ball does kind of, so it’s own name is perfectly fine. lol

No no… you see… Hammond is the power source of Wrecking Ball… when it’s rolling around? Hammond is running on a wheel and powering it up. :sunglasses:

when they decide to get off their butts and actually make lore THEN we’ll call him by his stupid name “wrecking ball”. until then he’s hammond to 95% of the playerbase

Not to mention Hammond isn’t the name of a godawful pop song we’d all rather forget…

We don’t call D.va “mech” because she’s already using her alias, D.va. Her actual name is Hana Song. Hammond is his name, Wrecking Ball is his alias.

Jack Morrison = Soldier: 76
Gabriel Reyes = Reaper
Mako Rutledge = RoadHog

And so on. Aliases are quite common in OW.

You know that’s kind of funny… when they decide to actually “MAKE LORE”… well if we knew him ONLY has Hammond… then isn’t adding the Wrecking Ball part in… MAKING LORE?! lol

Funny how that works out. :hamster:

Can we all just remember a small detail once more with the D.Va mech thing…

Wrecking Ball has slight AI… thus is basically a second character in one hero…

D.Va’s mech does not have an AI and is just a machine she uses. xD It’s not it’s own character. Just the little bit of AI WB has makes that difference. But nobody wants to think about the little details.

Well the lore is that he escaped with Winston and their pods got separated. Winston landed in Gibraltar and Hammond landed near Junkertown. Hammond then built his ball and went to fight in the Junkertown ring matches and used the name Wrecking Ball for those matches.

There is lore, if people choose not to ignore it.

They also ignore the little details. Also once again, we knew him as Hammond first, okay cool. Then they ADDED THE LORE INVOLVING WRECKING BALL and everyone is like “When they decide to ADD LORE.” like… so you mean Wrecking Ball being Hammond was old lore already…?

I try so hard to understand their ways of seeing that… but I can’t. xD I choose to look at the small details and see it all. xD

You’re not wrong but I really wish you were. :sob: [proceeds to waste away while waiting for decent Hana Song lore]

IT’s kinda both. The name of the Champion is Wrecking Ball, but the mech is also called Wrecking Ball

He’s also laughably weak… but I love him. eff haters

(but really you have a point too :c )

He’s not that weak actually. In the games I’ve been playing with him I’ve been able to pull off some amazing things and even get gold damage most of the time.

Hammond is the lore, Wrecking ball is the hero.
