It’s not. If you don’t get anything from the content other than hitting play and seeing “victory” or “defeat” then what is the point? Oh, there is none. That’s not unsurprising in any capacity.
If this was the 90s or early 2000s I’d agree with this sentiment. But we’re not in that time period anymore.
I’m not playing then, there is your answer. In fact, don’t know anyone of the 200+ people I know who are. They played for the first week and left, pretty much all of them had the exact same sentiments. The game feels too much like OW1 without the charm or soul, and now they get nothing for playing it other than feeling numb to “victory” or “defeat”.
These things matter now, and they always will. New content alone won’t suffice in 2022, especially not after the 3 years of blatant lying, scandals and other bs Blizzard pulled just to make it this way. All of which are red flags and totally unacceptable.
Well, when it comes to PVE (no matter the game), I feel rewarded by getting the highest difficulty achievements, that’s also what I liked about World of Warcraft’s Mythic+ Dungeons. It was never so much about the gear upgrades.
When it comes to Overwatch’s PVE, I see the seasonal skins as optional bonuses when there is difficulty involved in completing missions. I also like the teamplay aspect to it.
I think not getting access to skins for PVP is more of a problem (because of the paywall issue), whether you’re hardstuck at a rank or even if you’re Top 500 and have seen it all (it gets repetitive to play Cometitive).
So, I get what you’re saying but hopefully this new PVE mission will have a Legendary difficulty and you can feel rewarded by getting the achievement to completing the mission in its highest difficulty. Don’t you value that ?
Emberwing has a point though. When a company decides to turn a P2P game into a F2P game that consists of 80-90% of said 2016 game, while not adding a substantial amount of new content to make up for the fact that you can’t access to skins, it can get boring.
I don’t mind the new monetization or the skins behind a paywall (I’ve been playing other F2P games and still do play some of them) but what’s really dragging Overwatch down is the lack of new content and gameplay.
If we’re being honest, it’s the same game modes, same abilities, same mechanics so objectively speaking, you should be able to understand that most people feel like playing the same game as in 2016, without getting access to the only new weekly content : skins.
If devs manage to get more and more seasonal events (at least once a month), most players would forget about the Premium Battle Pass and the paywalled skins (they can’t get access to).
Yup, I still wonder when the game is going to be as stable as it was during the two betas :p… Weird to tell yourself that the betas were more playable than the current live version but here we are …
"But I must confess, the sleepless nights in the wake of the terrible encounters with Junkenstein have returned to plague me"
U’ve plagued us all and still trying to make fool of us. Game was great and now you are trying to monetize everything. I hope that your toilets in blizzard office are monetized too, that you need to pay for taking a crap.
0$ from me either. Canceled my wow sub, didnt buy dragonflight expansion and now I spit on your f2p model which you don’t know how to even properly manage.

is the implication here that monetization only exists along two extremes: lootboxes and $12,000 for previously free cosmetics? i really don’t understand this point
eh both are really important to the hygiene of the game imho, skins are a huge part of OW and i think it’s fair to feel less than enthused about the upcoming event, new game mode or not, when that extra bit of incentive is functionally removed for a lot of people
