Hacking while invisible

i want this so bad for sombra in OW2, but obviously it’s gonna be hard to play against with its quick cast time. so what if we did this?

Stealth

  • Hacks cast time is increased to 0.85 (or lower) seconds up from 0.65 seconds

would this help balance it out?

We will be able to answer (still inaccurately) when we see all of the changes since we don’t know what the other heroes are going to be like.

If other heroes power shift like Sombra, change may not be needed.

Then it would be a must pick every match. Imagine the amount of trolling it would lead too. Give me sombra, no!

As with previous hack nerfs, the more you nerf hack, the harder it is to go after other targets, the more hacks go to the tank.

Remember the first time hack was nerfed, they removed any reason to hack healthpacks (Hacking a healthpack actually means your supports lose on ult charge). ALL the hacks went to the enemy instead and everyone’s heads exploded when they started getting hacked 2-3x overnight because nobody thought how much effort Sombra was actually expending on maintaining those healthpacks. So what ended up happening was that EMP’s became slightly fewer, and hacks went WAAAAAY up.

So they nerfed hack again, and again, adding a 2 second cooldown on interrupt, reducing the hack area, etc. DPSes like Tracer, Genji, Doomfist, became too difficult to hack so more hacks went to the tank instead.

All nerfing hack does is reduce the number of viable targets, and tanks will ALWAYS be the most viable hack target. If you want tanks to be hacked less, then make the other roles actually worth going after.

Her stealth radius has been increase from 2m to 4m and you become slightly visible during the cast time, not fully visible- but enough to know that Sombra is there.

The same type of visible when you have detected a Sombra.

With these two changes, I don’t see an issue nor there is no need to increase her cast time back to 0.85 seconds. The other two helps balance it out.

This. Sombra’s rework only looks OP when you look at it from an OW1 perspective. We don’t know all the other changes to heroes like Ball and Doom yet. When we figure those out. We’ll see the real power level of the rework.

yeah i agree plus not everyone’s kit is updated so she’s defiantly gonna be strong

…it doesn’t even remotely look OP there, people are overreacting as usual.

It’s a better rework then I was expecting, but it’s an overall nerf from her current state IMO.

It will be OP when players who can actually aim pick her up. I understand with the current Sombra playerbase that even adding invisible backstabbing wouldn’t be threatening, but it will be different people on Sombra moving forward.

Problem is, assuming you dont bump into them, they still only have 0.65s to turn around, aim, and shoot. And when we take into account latency, on some heroes it will be quite rare to be able to stop that. Where on live, either she was already visible before doing that, so you had a chance to know she was there. Or she takes 0.8s or w.e it is to break stealth, announce it to the world, then go for the 0.65s hack.

Im worried hacking from stealth will be very easy to consistently get off, but we shall see what blizz decides.

None is denying that Hack will be easier which I am against, however… It is a change that I am willing to try as hacking in stealth would be a neat tech.

In terms of your concern, this change wouldn’t change too much as people make it out to be since her radius is being double so it is easier to detect a stealth Sombra. Not only that but I can see your concern in terms of not having enough time to react

However, it would be easier to duel that Sombra in OW2 since in OW1; she would have to only deal with the 0.65 second of hack then attack.

In OW2 yes she would hack you 0.65 sec, but then she would have to deal with the de-cloaking animation which is 0.75seconds then attack… where as before she would de-cloak and then hack then attack.

Still both equals to 1.4 seconds but the difference is the ORDER in which within that 0.75 second you would literally almost instantly have your ability back 0.25 sec (meaning she, Sombra would have to try and operate within that time frame before her targets get his or her ability back to fully duel.

It is honestly how you view it, but my bet is to wait and see everyone’s change/ rework etc as the Sombra rework looks OP on paper, but may be a different story in game.

Oh im willing to give it a try, I just dont think we will ever play the version of sombra they showed. After the pros also said how OP she was. So it wasnt just on paper, but also the gameplay they experienced. But ill wait and see what happens.

Also to your point about the order in which they do so, I was just thinking about getting the hack off to interrupt abilities, like rez and ults. Not to then try and kill them right after. Which is where I think those interrupts will be too easy to get.

Hack won’t have the same impact it currently is, you’ll still want Hanzos sonic arrow or widowmakers infra-sight over it. I’d want it to have some sort of usefulness aoe wise.

This is what so many people (who clearly never play Sombra) don’t understand.

Sombra isn’t going to be stealth hacking everything constantly, because that is worthless and just keeps you out the the fight. Since Sombra’s utility is gutted, she will NEED to step up her damage numbers to justify her spot in a squad and make an impact, and you can’t do that while stealthed.

Stealth Hack will primarily be for a few things: Health Packs(which admittedly will be a awesome change), stopping Channeled Ults, and marking an isolated problematic flanker to a team not in voice.

yeah i think hacking in stealth is the better solution

her kit was nerfed? bro, the pros who played the exhibition match all agreed it was op

Professionals can be wrong. I don’t think they are in this instance, but they can be.

There’s a reason “peer-reviewed” is so incredibly important when citing scholarly papers.

The pros always say Sombra is OP. They have been endlessly spouting that for the last 4 years.

She was nerfed. The enormous loss of utility isn’t offset by 30 extra DPS if she lands a Hack, plus the plethora of other changes that will hurt her overall.

Exactly this, but if the enemy team is solely using the stealth hack method, then they don’t have to worry about that 50% damage buff.

I see they’re planning to change Sombra from a shutdown character to a dps assassin. The reduction of hack stopping abilities to a measly one second makes the other changes fine imo “they should get rid of the decloaking animation with the proposed changes though”. People are always going to complain about her. Not much you can do about that  .
