Hacking report - Press Alt F4 to contest? Was i duped?

I was mid game, first round ended and we were doing great. I received a notification on Overwatch that “A player has reported you for hacking, press ALT F4 to contest” I pressed ALT F4 and it kicked me out of the game and gave no option to contest. Is this a valid report? Was my account hacked and the message was not from overwatch? Do i need to contest this?

This is a new troll tactic.

Players tend to set their username to “System” or “Admin”

And put in mean messages like: “A member of your team has filed a report against your account. Please press [ALT]+[F4] to open the report appeal window to appeal the reports against you.”

So it’ll look like:
[SYSTEM]: A member of your team has filed a report against your account. Please press [ALT]+[F4] to open the report appeal window to appeal the reports against you.

Now let me explain what [ALT] + [F4] does.

[ALT] + [F4] is a shortcut used to close the process you’re currently tabbed in.
Nothing hack like, it’s normal for Windows.

I hope with this information you can enjoy this game with no problem.
And if someone does this, please do report them for Trolling.

thanks, i feel so dumb lol.

Also to help avoid any further trouble, remember that messages from players will appear in the following text colors (depending on the channel):

  • White - General Lobby Chat - While not in any game of Overwatch any player may participate in the general lobby chat.
  • Blue - Team Text Chat - This chat only appears to the teammates of your own team during a game of Overwatch
  • Orange - Match Text Chat - This chat only appears to all players during a game of Overwatch
  • Green - Group Text Chat - This chat appears to members of your group (regardless if you are in a game or not).
  • Purple - Whisper/Direct Message - This is a friends only communication channel where messages come from friends on your BattleNet account (a friend does not need to necessarily be logged into Overwatch to chat with you).

System messages will appear with NO username and will appear in the following colors:

  • Light Orange - These messages appear to display information about the match currently being played such as when a teammate changes heroes.
  • Light Blue - These messages are communication wheel messages such as “Hello!” and “I need healing!” but will be identified by both the hero name and the player’s BattleTag who activated it.
  • Yellow - These are system messages with important information about your game and includes most non-critical error messages. System messages will have no BattleTag displayed.
  • Red - These are system messages with critical information about your game and includes most critical error messages including disconnections. System messages will have no BattleTag displayed.
  • White with a purple background and the Competitive icon - These system messages relate to your status in a Competitive Game mode such as when you drop a tier in Competitive Rank.
  • White with a red background and the “searching” icon - These system messages appear during a Competitive Match and relate to when a teammate has left the match including instructions of if you can leave the match or not.
  • Red with a white background and a caution symbol displayed - These system messages are warning messages relating to your account and player behavior in Overwatch. This includes warnings such as leaving too many games and if you are silenced from using communication features due to abusive chat.

Hey there!
Sorry for always going off-topic but there isn’t just any other platform i can connect with you.

How do people mark posts as solved? I have no idea how it’s done.

your mostly right, but its not new people have been doing it for years

also players cant name them selves system or admin

what they can do is write a really long post, maybe by using lots of spaces, so it wraps around to the next line and arrange it so that [admin] or any other players in the games name is the first word of the next line

i think over watch text chat currently starts all posts with a dot so this can help you spot this

Y’know, players can actually call themselves by those names.

^ Spoken as a true alt of mine.

i assumed system would be excluded, since admin isn’t allowed, , it really should be, guess i was wrong, but the usual way is to force a new line so they can call themselves what they want

Yeah, well nothing to do about it.
Usually most people know about this, but unknowing new players should get to know this too.

Hopefully action will be taken to these players.

There are actually a couple things you could do to help with this type of troll tactics beyond just being aware. If you find that someone’s using a name that causes them to pose as a Blizzard member, you can report them after the game for their name. Open your social menu (using the O key by default) then go to Recent players, then find the player who committed the offense. You can also report the chat itself as abusive from this menu if they aren’t posing as Blizzard agents. That’ll send the info to us for review and depending on what else they’ve done may result in silencing or a change of name for the player in question.

The original poster who posts a topic in the Technical Support forum will have an icon available to them in all possible replies where they can mark a post as resolved. This is only available to the person who created the topic and can only mark one topic as resolved.
