So I’ve finally broken 3200 as monkey + rein and obviously I can call out targets to dive, but Im struggling a lot with calling out the initial dive and coordinating it with my team. Im sort of at a loss for who to actually call out to dive at this stage due to the insane amount of CC in this game. Supports are almost always ana brig, and even if it were just ana she herself has insane CC and can outplay a winston potentially. Tanks have armour and I have a tickle cannon, so should I be diving the dps?? Normally I call out like a mccree thats strayed too far from their team for example but at higher ranks the dive opportunities are growing slimmer with my current knowledge.

My opinion might not mean much but Hammond is a solid combo for diving. If he can pop his shield after a piledriver he can easily soak up all the CC. Piledriver does a reasonable amount of damage and if Winston and another dive hero follows you’re almost guaranteed to get a pick
Wait for their cooldowns and then dive. This is going to be tricky, of course, because it will be a combination of carefully studying the enemy and listening to cues, as well as trying to bait or pressure those abilities out. However, once Ana has one of her abilities out of the way, and Brig doesn’t have Shield Bash, both are very easy targets to dive. As an Ana main, nothing is more embarrassing for myself than shooting out a reckless Sleep Dart, missing, and the enemy team clearly coordinating their push around that and focusing me down.
If you can’t find another unarmored target, likely yes, jumping a DPS can be a fine option, especially if they’re providing damage from range. Locking them up and keeping their damage contained will offer a lot of support to your team, and you have enough presence to either squeak out a kill or force the enemy to reposition/escape.
Also, if armor is a problem, then coordinate your team to try and take out the armor for you. I feel like… for some reason, people often forget this, no offense, but some of your allies are probably better at knocking off armor than others. Pharah and snipers can do this quite easily, one shot will generally remove or make redundant any armor the target has, and that makes Winston’s engagement a lot safer.
In general, also consider who your dive partner is, and how that effects who, where, and how you can engage. Sombra needs to stealth to get into position, and you might want to have her get a hack either before or after you make your entrance. Doomfist can usually charge right alongside with you, and Wrecking Ball tends to make a better splash if he jumps in first.
I’m not the best person to give advice because I’m currently stuck as a gold/plat Mercy main, but after watching a ton of higher play youtube videos I’ll throw something out there for the sake of it may be helpful from what I learned. So, my suggestion would be to target Ana or any other more vulnerable support when you see them more alone. When you see them away from their brig or maybe on high ground away from your team, turn to your dva and say “hey dva ana is blank by herself, let’s dive her in 3 2 1” I’ve seen this in a few games where addresses where and who you want to dive along with what person to dive with you. You can protect dva with bubble and she can eat sleeps and grenade so thats why I said dva. I don’t really like Hammond because he doesn’t really synergize with anyone and his kit is really to only protect himself. He also has no defense agaisnt sleep darts or nades besides getting out asap.
