Since the last update i’ve been getting brown-screen game crashes that force me to ALT-F4 the game to get it to close. Followed by a dialog box saying “Rendering Device Lost” like I said ive never had this crash prior to the update. I’m using a GTX 980 and Intel i5-4670k.
EDIT: Oh and ill go 3-4 matches without crashing then all of a sudden ill get the crash. It seems to happen randomly from my experience. Next time it happens ill update this post with photos and DX-DIAG log etc.
Do a clean uninstall of your NVidia Drivers by using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). You can get it from Guru3D com. I use it anytime I update my video drivers because its actually very bad to install a new driver on top of the old one without removing the old one first.
Just follow the instructions, its going to take about 5 minutes, including 2 reboots of your computer. Just download your new driver or driver you were most comfortable with and save it to your desktop for easy finding because your screen is literally going to go to 640x480 resolution by default. Once you are logged in after the first reboot, install the new driver on your desktop. As long as you let it install without interruption you should be good to go and that pesky Rendering Device Lost error should go away. It pops up when the driver didnt install correctly or a loose file from the previous one is conflicting.
Best of luck, hope it works out.
Anybody viewing don’t download this program it is malware. If you want to cleanly uninstall drivers use windows built in “Device Manager”
- Go into your Control Panel
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
- Select the NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers from the list of programs.
- Click Change/Remove or Add/Remove button.
- Confirm with Windows that you wish to continue with the uninstall
That program is not malware. if your AV or Anti-Malware flagged it, its a false positive. Its a useful program many of us have used for years. I’ve used it for about 7 years.
That basic method of uninstalling leaves a lot of old files behind that can still cause issues. All DDU does is removes is the driver files and the scrap files the driver leaves behind that can cause errors. Thats all it does. Stop being paranoid with your tinfoil hat.
I’ve never had “scrap files” after uninstalling via windows program, DDU seems like a unnecessary program to me; but hey whatever works for you.
Then you have been lucky or you simply believe everything to be gone. If removing through Windows itself worked all of the time without fail DDU wouldn’t be advised by professionals as much as it is.
It’s not just you. All of us RTX users that have any RTX technology related GPU are having the same issue. Blizzard told us that it’s a problem with our PC’s not their game. I just lost 50 SR cause it gave me that error and when i rebooted the game there was no “rejoin match” option.
