GTX 1050 Ti on 144Hz Monitor

Hi, I’m planning to build a gaming PC with a GTX 1050 ti and for the processor is an Intel Core i5-8400, I would like to play with a 144hz monitor with these PC Setting, can by setting still run well with the monitor? Will play on all Low setting + 50 - 75% Render Scale.

I know for ow usually 1060 is minimum.to have to play on 144hz wkth 75 render scale

I’d get a 1060 3gb just in case, you’ll probably be playing on low settings at 100% renderscale to reliably be above 150fps.

Being at 75% really isn’t worth the fps, it only makes the game less detailed, something that is pretty useful for long distances. /shrug

(or you can OC the 1050ti, I OC quite high and get about a 20-30 fps bump.)

can you not buy a gtx 970 ?
its on 150 € (second hand)

You won’t need to reduce it to 50% render or even 75%.

Overwatch is more CPU dependent and ram speed dependent anyway. You’ll be fine with that setup.

Speaking of ram, i was thinking of getting a HyperX Fury DDR4 2400 MHZ, is 8 gb or 16 gb recommended?

8 gb is fine for gaming but if you wanna run a few programs in the background you may want 16 gb

Does factory overclock works and safe as well? For example im using MSI afterburner to overclock, that helps?

Factory overclocks are safe with most boardmakers they are usually tested and tuned for consistensty before sent out.

What do you mean?

OCing is generally safe (unless you’re going crazy with liquid nitrogen etc) and will result in a PC crash or game crash if you go too OTT. Factory overclocks are safe - just dont OC it too much after that.

If you’re on a budget, 8gb is fine for gaming currently.

My apologies, because I never overclocked a computer before and my friend says that overclocking can harm your PC as you mentioned. But if i use an overclocking program like MSI afterburner is fine right?

No that is where the risk come from. Basically the factory sends those out so that you can at least access the settings safely. Now if you know how to OC you’re fine from here.

MSI Afterburner is one of the best OC tools - I’ve put my PC on the highest options with fanspeed at full.

My game crashed after 5 minutes. :frowning:

It’s fine as long as you don’t keep your PC at max OC 24/7 - that might be harmful over the long term.

Thanks for the tips, im set on my processor (i5-8400) now for the VGA I’m thinking of still going for a 1050 ti or 1060 6 GB, if im on a budget 1050 ti it is, but still wanted to get to play on the 144hz monitor

get a Ryzen 5 1600 with 1060. it will run 150+ fps all times everything low no render scale sacrifice
if you want to play on medium/high get Ryzen 5 2600 instead

Try getting the 1060.
I’m on the 3gb version, low settings with textures on high, 100% render scale, 1080p, and the game rarely drops below 250.

i5-8400, 8gb.

i’m on a 2013: i7 3770 with a gtx670 and 32gb ram and I can get 144mhz except in big fights with lots of ULTs with big visuals like Moira, in which it dips a little . I hard cap at 166 and it stays up there pretty well. I don’t see why a 1050 wouldn’t be fine.

Don’t know how it compares to the 670, but GTX cards with 50 at the end are usually not made for gaming.

This seems like a laptop build. Gl with that.
