She was as much of a support as Torb was, and her being misclassified as a support was something that created so much misinformation to how Sym was supposed to be played.
Yeah I am sure thats the reason why Stevoo went into hiatus. Oh wait, Stevoo is no longer a factor since his name is no longer an easy gotcha to say Sym is somehow viable in ladder.
0.3% pickrate and 41% winrate in GM.
Using Sym in comp was a massive uphill battle and now that her last miserable shred of dps viability was nerfed even the top tier Sym players are dropping her.

Sym is too slow of a hero to work in anything really competive. She excels at stalling the point and making the enemy take more time, be more cautious for turrets and so on.
In an actual fight however her worth is greatly diminished. IT’s why OWL will never use her as is for anything but as a Taxi service. They go for fast plays and quick captures, not a prolonged poke at the choke fest we normally get in the ladder.
The funny thing about her one saving grace, the TP it’s kind of a high risk high reward thing. IT bottlenecks your team and if they see it coming or get lucky it makes it super easy to wipe out your team or stall the push.
It’s not even just the point you come out either, the TP could be destroyed with only half your team at the objective. Sym could end up dying on the way, leaving your team at a cliff with no TP till she comes back.
While OWL generally is above the lack of team work, it’s still a huge investment into a play and has very little wiggle room for a change to the plans.
Because most of the support roster is somewhat playable (except Brig, Baptiste) and it would be easier for Symmetra to shine between 7 supports than 16 dps.

Funnily enough, a dev (I think it was Jeff) said a long time ago that Torb was considered to be added into the Support role. The role system wasn’t originally intended to be static, and it was just a guide line. Of course that’s changed with role queue.
Anyway, Torb didn’t have enough support in his kit. The only support aspect he had was armor packs, whereas almost every part of Sym’s kit was support orientated.

Making her a support could require making her basically a whole another hero altogether, and its honestly not worth it to alienate what remains of the 2.0 playerbase AND the 3.0 playerbase just so people who think that an arbitrary label is more indicative of how she actually played since the game released.
Older sym, 2.0 I think was the most support orientated in that she had a the shield barrier in addition to shield Gen. Still most people hated her on the team because while they were nice, it wasn’t worth replacing a real healer on your team for it.
It’s like calling Soldier a healer because he has Biotic field.
I see Syms on ladder from time to time, they don’t seem any better or any worse overall than the other DPS I see. In fact sometimes, the other team has so little experience dealing with Sym, that they get dunked on.
Oh damn, you got me, sym must be unplayable cuz a streamer isnt playing them.

Her 4th rework should borrow things from 2.0.
Bring back noodle beam (but no lock on, just bigger hitbox like Moira), shield generator, healing turrets or photon barrier from 1.0 but now it heals…
Maybe get rid of orbs and replace them with healing beam.
There are so many possibilities and concepts of support Symm out there but Devs won’t listen.
Or just give 3.0 survivability, movement or burst dmg.
builders are going to have a problem in a mobile game.
Then her weapon would just be Moira-
Symmetra isnt a strong character in a double sniper, double off-tank meta
It shouldn’t take a genius to work that out, or realise that 1/2 of the roster weren’t even played.
you know stevoo plays more than just symm right
he swaps when she isn’t working lol, so “symm bad so stevoo left” is not true unless he actually said it
They literally will. She was fine prior Sigma’s release, almost all of her issues are a result of all the nerfs they gave her. Her biggest drawbacks right now is her inconsistent kit and low survivability.

Popularity and win ratings are still not a good argument. Never have been, never will be. Stop using them, especially from an unreliable third-party site.
Not really, because she could actually function as a close range hero.
Sym right now is a taxibot that depends on being heavily pocketed by her team to accomplish anything that isnt taxibotting, because she lacks survivability to stay at her range.
She was just as bad, dont pinkglass or nostalgia glass Sym 3.0 because she was considered just as bad by anyone with a brain after the 3.0 hype died off. The only people vocal about her being worse now that before ITP are people who played her like a bootleg Tracer thinking that their skill making up for a defective design meant the design was fine.
Her low survivability was exactly the same that she has right now. Nothing has changed except nerfing her from a below mediocre damage glass taxibot to a terrible damage glass taxibot.
Sym could reach 0.1% pickrate and 30% winrate and anti-Sym forum warriors will just say ‘‘yeah well why arent you that 0.1% of the players?’’ and call you skilless.

That unreliable third-party site is the only thing close to data we have unless Blizz does otherwise.
As for the stats themselves, people would be coming out of the woodworks to complain about Sym pickrate and winrate if she was meta…
