5 days, 15 matches— that’s how long I lasted before getting suspended again, this time for a month.
I’m no saint; I only play competitive, so yeah, sometimes I get a little too excited. I’ll call a teammate a “noob” or throw out some irony like “Nice ult” or “Nice timing.” It’s irritating, sure, but come on—this is competitive! Is that really enough to get someone to abuse the report button? It doesn’t even happen every time—most matches are actually pretty peaceful. Jesus, what times we’re living in… And most of the time, I’m the only one trying to communicate with my team—because I always thought communication was key to winning… silly me.
Anyway, since I only played tank during all those matches, naturally, I’m the on to blame when the team doesn’t perform well. Sometimes you respond to provocation, and other times, someone just decides to tell everyone to report you, accusing you of racism just to get both team to report you—sadly, this is all too common on South American servers.
Now I’m starting to understand why no one communicates in this game anymore. Apparently, using chat or voice is just asking for a ban. So, I guess I’ll turn it off and pretend it’s an offline game for now on. Got it, Blizzard.
I’ve been playing Overwatch since launch, taking breaks here and there, but it’s always been my guilty pleasure. I’m hoping this month-long “detox” will finally help me walk away for good.
My nickname doesn’t mean I’m a troll, I always play to win. I chose this because of the way Overwatch match always tries to keep you in a win/lose limbo when you play solo.
But sometimes I wonder if the amount of reports I receive is because of my nickname.
Either way, I wouldn’t give Blizzard a dime just to change it.
And that’s also missing things.
GOOD communication is key.
Me screaming at you isn’t good. But it is communication. Does that make it okay?
I communicate quite often. With both my team and the other team. 9 times out of 10, the communication from everyone is pretty friendly. Based off your wording for this post, I think there’s a lot you aren’t saying.
You take in what you put out - I find that if you start friendly, others are more likely to be friendly back. (And sit back and tell you if you really are getting hit by a car in Oasis or are just going crazy.)
Not leaving anything out—what I’m trying to say is that I hardly use strong language, even when I’m arguing with a player.
Not screaming… Of course, I always start off friendly. Most of the time, people don’t even respond back. 3 out of 10 matches you’ll have someone actually using voice chat on South American servers.
Alright, friend. Looks like you’re someone who likes to assume how others behave—can’t argue with that.
And if you think my post is nasty, maybe you’re the type of person who reports player when they don’t switch char or call you a noob. Too passive agressive for you?
I’m drawing conclusions based on what I’m seeing. All I can make those conclusions is from how you present yourself here. What else do you suggets I do?
I don’t do that.
All you’re doing is further proving that my conclusions were correct. If you’re getting this upset outside of a game, how upset do you get inside of it?
With how defense matrix works now, yes; you can literally be reported for anything. Its an absurdly stupid system, but they believe its working flawlessly.
Its best to just never use chat again because that is what Blizzard is pushing for apparently.
What Rays said. Their idiotic policy is written in such a way that saying “hello” can get you actioned, then it takes an almost insurmountable amount of effort to get reports like that overturned via their ‘customer service’.
You also said you’re on SA servers. IDK if Mexicans play on there or not but despite maybe the culture being a bit different, their report threshold/policy is not. Blizzard is based out of California.
They also think it’s ‘working as intended’ and not seeing the damage to their team game. So if you don’t want to lose your account, until they change their policy, you musn’t do anything reportable, remembering that almost anything can be reportable so long as it makes someone feel some sort of way (check the policy if you need to).
It’s crap, but this is what they want. There’s financial benefit into them taking away your account with everything unlocked/bought just to make you get a new account and unlock/buy things you want/had. Their player # goes up, they get to say they banned a toxie, you pay more money, and all the rest of their shortsighted goals are achieved.
I don’t know man, I’ve been using chat regularly since OW1 was in beta and I’ve not been banned.
If you use it to make callouts and uplift your team then you will probably be fine. But if you view the chat as a tool for mocking and belittling other players… well, don’t be surprised when Blizzard takes that tool away from you.
I believe this one. I was banned for nothing as well and had to fight tooth and nail with Blizz support’s robot staff to get them to acknowledge I did nothing wrong and unban me after a human finally reviewed my case.
Are we all supposed to go around in bubble wrap and knee pads to protect us from people pointing out issues & hurting our feelings? People saying “Mercy diff” to me is lazy abuse that annoys me, but if I had my way, the Differs should just get a bump down in endorsement rating for being meanie faces, it’s not a big deal.
Sometimes people give me actual criticism and it makes me go back to review my gameplay to see what I could have done better. Under the current system, you can be banned for doing nothing wrong just because people voted that they don’t like you on a personal level.
Imagine if you could be thrown in jail because 3 to 5 people voted to have you thrown in jail, even though you didn’t break any laws.
