Gold Guns - Remove them from comp rewards

Gold weapon skins should be tied to character-specific achievements. Shatter kill 10,000 heroes as Reinhardt. Grav 10,000 as Zarya. Ask for healing at critical health as Genji for a total of 24 hours. Anything but winning comp games.

It doesn’t make sense that you can save comp points to buy a gold skin for a hero that has just been released. You should have to prove you have at least played the hero for a significant time.

Obvs it is too late for gold skins. Maybe make Diamond skins next and tie them to milestones.

Says the one crying about something that nobody else bats an eye over thats been out since launch?

There should only be a single reason to play comp: Ranking up.

Want to grind stupid loot? Play casual modes.

No. I have them all except for Bastion and Sym. Who i am trying to get before OW2. You insult my efforts. The bonus points for being in higher elos at the end of the season is the reward for trying harder.

“Nobody else bats an eye at it”

you know, except people like Jeff Kaplan, who knew more about it than you

I have several gold guns as well. I’d give them up if it meant comp was filled with people who cared about getting better instead of grinding for flashy cosmetics

nobody competes at Evo just so they can have an exclusive outfit for Guilty Gear

nobody plays competitive chess in order to unlock a new hat for the bishop pieces

casual rewards for competitive efforts are ridiculous

if you want comp to offer unique rewards, they should be rank gated to incentivize better play instead of giving Bronzo Shimada the same rewards as a GM aim god

Jeff also knew the walls were closing around him with all these sexual harrassment, mysognistic workplace, and other scandals and lawqsuits and he conveniently left after turning a blind eye to them when he knew the lawsuit would be headlines 3 weeks after his departure. So Jeff Kaplan knowing things doesnt mean Jeff Kaplan is right about anything.

Everyone knows Activision is awful. That includes you. Why did you turn a blind eye on it? Are you an awful person?

The trash culture of actiblizz has nothing to do with design decisions, you should probably delete your post and think a bit before replying

I’ve seen this suggestion made a hundred times on the forums. There are a lot of people, including myself, that hate that the gold weapons are tied to comp.

Yes. I am an awful person. I am also a self-aware person. I, however, did not have insider information on the work culture at blizzard, and this isn’t the point of the post. Jeff Kaplan mismanaged a lot about Overwatch from balance to OWL priority, throwing his name at me like a ‘gotcha’ doesn’t phase me at all. Jeff Kaplan is incredibly fallable.

don’t forget the part about having awful opinions

Well, at least my opinions stand on their own and down call on Paja Jeff to validate them.

The reward for playing comp should have been playing a more serious mode with heightened competition. Putting golden guns had a side effect of having people queue for comp just for the golden guns and not the competition, degrading the mode.

“My opinions are terrible but at least nobody important agrees with me!”

Yeah okay.

Alright calm down, no need to attack the guy, being wrong doesn’t mean he should be shamed.

I’d be curious what qualify as mismanagement. Because since he left Blizzard themselves diabolised him to make them look good. Except so far, I’m personnally not impressed. If anything, I think Kaplan did his best despite the community.

fair enough

With blizzard selling accounts for 5 dollars, the rampant smurfing, alts, and whatever you want to call it, the golden guns are the smallest aboslutely inoffensive thing that is wrong with comp. At least they decided to implement the phone number system for OW2. Saying golden guns are bad for comp integrity is like saying spitting in an outhouse is gross.

No, it just makes it one of many issues that plagued comp mode since it’s inception.
