Nothing personal but i’m SO tired of so much of the game being based around streamers, and now this? I could maybe understand if it was a bunch of really small streamers but the first name on the list is XQC… do big streamers like that really need an event like this to get even more money? I would much rather have had another pink mercy like charity event and do some actual good. Sad I absolutely will not be getting this Brigitte skin, its not half bad
Don’t watch streamers then.
Don’t support streamers then.
Don’t buy or donate to get the skin.
Problem solved.
one step ahead of you bro. its just a stupid idea for an event and they should have never done it and I hope they never do it again.
Does OW2 need an effective modern marketing campaign?
If so, then yeah, streamers are going to be a big part of that.
It’s really no different than subsidized videogame magazine reviews. Or celebrity endorsements on TV/Radio.
I hate them catering to streamers because of how toxic streaming culture has gotten in the past 6 years.
It still doesn’t solve the issue of more toxic players joining or more players being toxic because they think it’s okay because they see a toxic streamer rage at their teammates.
I frequently see people in pretty much every online game I play nowadays use streamer’s excuses to be toxic as their own excuses to be toxic and throw. As long as streamers can negatively influence the community, I don’t think they should be catered to by the developers.
They want the skin, they just don’t want to pay for it. Guarantee you if this was just $10 half would run out tomorrow to buy it.
By what reasoning? Blizz makes some coin, the streamers make some coin, and some folks might tune in longer to watch the game and you got a skin. How is this “stupid” exactly?
People have the same exact defense every time Blizzard does something annoying.
“(sound argument)”
“erm, you don’t HAVE to buy it!”
I don’t watch, support or anything relating to streamers, but he does have a point however. A lot of game companies give streamers way too much pass because of their name. So no watching or support them, really doesn’t solve the problem in the first place since a lot of people actually do.
They wont get anything from me.
Can beg as muhh as they want.
Maybe because that is the way it is… none of you are victims in this in any way.
They could put one skin in the game as an NFT, charge $100,000 and you all would still complain…
Very cool your opinion is noted, personally at least I like watching streamers(mainly vtubers such as hololive tho and a bit of Siege, Apex, and OW streamers as well). At the end of the day you don’t have to do anything revolving around streamers if you don’t want to, no one is forcing you to watch them or anything.
Or the “no one is forcing you to buy/do anything” argument.
The focus on esports and Twitch culture is the biggest reason OW ultimately failed.
It’s stupid because if they want us to support streamers they can do it like they have in the past with the “watch certain streamers for 4 hours to get this spray” type of thing. they can get their viewers up that way and maybe someone will find a streamer they like and sub. If we’re doing a sort of “charity” event it should be to an actual charity (and no they didn’t call it a charity event afaik but that’s basically what it is)
OWL and streamers are the reason this game became unfun…
This is the worst possible example you could’ve used, because this is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. No duh people would be mad if they added an NFT lol
I’d argue the issue is more like, the vast majority don’t even want the skin.
They just hate the idea that they can’t get every skin in the game by playing or afking on a muted/minimized stream.
Mixed in with, it being annoying to not be able to just purchase it directly from Blizzard.
I just want to support the Overwatch streamers I enjoy rather than be forced to a few that frankly don’t need my help that much.
I have no problem, either, just buying it in the Blizzard shop if I want it. I just would prefer to reward my favorite streamers.
Have you not heard the announcement that ow2 is going free to play?
Do you know how free to play games work?
They are giving the game free to everyone but they are going to have microtransactions in order to make revenue. Because if the game makes no revenue then what is the point of even supporting or making content for the game.
The developers are not working for free.
At least going forward I can pick and choose what to spend money on because I could care less for anything that isn’t for the heroes I enjoy playing.
Like this Brig skin that everybody is complaining about. I wouldn’t even wear it or want it even if it was free.
Just like the old loot box system when I would get a legendary but it is for a hero I could care less about, and it remained untouched and unused in my collection of cosmetics.
The problem is Streamers are easy and cheap marketing for companies. Sure the top 1% of streamers might get a million dollar deal to play a companies game, like say Ninja. But most streamers sell out their reputation and channel for a free beta access or a copy of the game.
My thing though is I just can’t stand the format. Chat on most good streams scrolls so fast you can’t really read any of it. 90% is spam. The streamer themself constantly interrupts what ever they are doing to talk to chat, respond to donation pop ups etc.
Now some content is better than others. I would say more chill streams tend to work best, I have gotten into more Minecraft streams than anything else because it’s a fairly chill game to watch while they talk. Though at time it’s annoying when it takes them 10 minutes to build a simple wall because they keep stopping to thank donations.
In general I prefer youtube videos. Something that was actually edited, even if it’s just a clip from a stream. Than sitting through 8 hours of raw footage hoping something interesting happens in that time.
