I keep hearing the tern GOATS, can someone explain what this comp is?

The name doesn’t mean anything, it’s just named after the first team to seriously use it.

3 healers 3 tanks. The most common is Rein, Zarya, Dva, Lucio, Brig, and a 3rd healer generally Zen or Ana

It’s called goats because they will “ram” you, like goats. Basically it’s an unbreakable battery of people who can slam you or otherwise kill you fairly quickly, and are very hard to deal with because they work so well together.

I believe the name was inspired by Brigs ability to Ram everyone like a goat.

Could be wrong, though.

GOATS is basically 3 healrs and 3 supports that stacks healing and gives Zarya the most damage in the game.

Its like playing football with 7 defenders and 3 midfield and winning every game.

If this isnt a joke that is wrong, the GOATs comp was named after the team that first ran it seriously, here’s a link to a wiki page about them if you’re interested

Usually 3 supports, 3 tanks
Rein (can be replaced with Winston)
Zarya
D.Va (sometimes replaced with Sombra or Mei)
Brig
Lucio
Zen (sometimes replaced with Ana or Moira)

It’s actually just named after the team that seriously ran it first. Your explanation is just a happy coincidence, but might’ve played a role in popularizing the name nonetheles.

Thanks everyone! so if goats is slowly being nerfed by blizz from what I am hearing on the forums what is the current new best comp?

I got misinformed, then. There was some pro player that was saying that’s why they called it goats, probably as a joke. I took it seriously because I’m dumb.

We don’t have a new meta yet and odds are very little is going to change and we will still see mostly 3-3 comps being ran at the OWL and GM level of play.

They will sub in Sombra or maybe mix in some other combo of healers here or there, maybe we start to see a bit more DPS on certain maps but I doubt 3-3 is going away for say King’s Row or certain KOTH stages etc.

keep in mind the whole best meta etc really is only at the peak sub 1% of the player base and higher. There are like 3 or 4 (depending on point of view) levels of play past top 500 on ladder. Even GM games are a sloppy mess of random strangers trying to play as a team.
Down with all the average players team comps still need synergy as far as who works well with each other and against the other team’s comp, but there isn’t a set core must play meta.
