Just YouTube Glicko 2 rating system since I can’t post links for reference.
I’m familiar with this system since I played Splatoon 2. I’m almost certain it’s in overwatch as well.
Elo hell exists however it’s you’re own fault you’re there. The Matchmaker expects a certain outcome when you’re playing against a certain team. So it expects you to win or lose before the match actually starts.
Correct if I’m wrong but this means you need to change how you play. depending on each individual game, and rank to rank up.
My only problem with this, as a team game, is that the rankings for individuals are hidden and uncertain for your own team. Due to toxicity and the systems nature of being constantly uncertain itself. Actually, it’s the uncertainty of everyone’s rank unless you’re pro or top 500. this is slightly mitigated by brackets however most people aren’t happy with there ranking and believe they should be higher.
What’s one to do if you’re put in a match where it’s already decided you’re going to lose? And by what margin? Obviously you’ll know if you get steam rolled.
There’s different variations of winning/losing. Mainly how quickly you lose or win. Making the game somewhat stressful and drawn out if you’re not trying to learn or have fun.
no, that’s a contradiction, definition of elo hell: a skill range you cannot progress through your own skill.
no calculating a 50% chance for you to win is also a 50% for you to lose and the matchmaker doesn’t NOT know which one it is (or should be) beforehand
that’s the freakin point of finding 50% chance matches, so you can’t say who wins and it is on YOU to decide that…
a 50% win chance means EVERY SINGLE GAME IS WINNABLE!
edit: what people don’t understand is 50% win chance is not a 50% win rate.
let’s make an owl example, two teams are pretty much the same skill, let’s say titans and shock, everyone predicts a 50% chance either of them wins. what you expect is a very close game but it can still end 4-0 for one side with the other losing barely every map
it does NOT mean it has to end 3:2 with the last stage on map 5 going 99/99 for the decider, and if it didn’T it wasn’t a 50:50 for each team to win
you can flip a coin 20 times and get 15 times heads in a row, each throw is still a 50% chance
First of all that’s not a contradiction because it’s (the ranking system) meant to place you in your rank. I said nothing of improving yourself. This isn’t an “elo hell exists” post. This is a post about the Glicko rating system. Please before commenting, look it up.
I’m not arguing how the ranking system works. There’s a wiki page that can show you the mathematic formula for how the ranking system places and progresses people. It’s not voodoo magic. This game is %100 about numbers and chance. The SR system let’s you compete in real time and it has a specific way of measuring where you belong on a large spectrum from game to game. Your ranking and the formula behind it is relative to how we all play.
You lose because the other team beat you. There is no magic.
Delusions.
That’s correct. I’m not going to sit here and explain Glicko for people who’re clearly too lazy to look it up.
Everyone seems to just jump a bandwagon when mentioning the rating system. The rating system is scaled on a bell curve. It’s meant to rate people by number and adjust where you are on that scale. It isn’t a ladder. Yes a 50/50 game is winnable. It’s going to be hard to win, especially if you’re not taking into consideration all the factors that gave that 50/50 in the first place.
Estimations and projections can be calculated.
Some clues that Glicko is being used in Overwatch:
Elo is a Glicko term.
The amount you gain in SR fluctuate’s depending on your individual performance. Overwatch calibrates your SR on a regular basis ( putting you against a variety of players to determine where you belong). There’s a trust system in the form of endorsements, reporting, and an “avoid team mate” button. The bracket is not a ladder it’s on a bell curve because we have top 500 and low bronze.
A lot of people seem to misinterprete what I mean by elo hell exists. I say that because once the system has enough data to accurately place you, it’s going to take a lot of time in order to move up. Yes, the Matchmaker will expect you to lose/win based on your team’s collective SR. Once you get close to 50/50 wins loses, the system isn’t sure.
seriously look it up.
I’m not arguing how chance and how improving at the game works. Especially when the only posters just wanna argue for the sake of arguing. Get a life.
