We only want control over the heroes we chose to play.
Give us a new setting to confirm if you want to be pulled or not.
Confirming grip would take more time, but the player who turns on this setting is aware of it and wants it anyway.
[edit]
After reading last reply I think having the option to cancel grip by pressing interaction key is a also good idea. It works for every hero, not only mobility heroes, and does (unfortunately) not disempower lw’s ability. We sohuld should have both settings
If grip was an ability like Mercy’s rez in that there was a second or two between the start of the ability and it’s actual execution, it could work.
As it stands, grip seems situational enough (i.e. they need to be gripped out of the fight NOW) that having to wait for confirmation would mean you’ll often times die before you get a second to accept the grip. Now you might read that and think “good! I’d rather die than get gripped when I don’t approve!” and hey, more power to you, but that’s a discussion for another post.
Another problem is it could create a new issue ‘learned helplessness’ among lifeweavers. In other words, they get so used to everyone denying their grips, that they just stop using it altogether. Introducing more anxiety in the form of “ugh, lifeweaver, you could’ve easily gripped me out of that fight and saved me, why didn’t you?” and the lifeweaver is just sitting there like “damned if I do, damned if I don’t”
All that said, I’d still gladly test out your idea if they introduced it.
I think if this is the angle you’re coming from, we should look at sombra’s hack first… or anything that affects the enemy rather than a teammate. Lw grip can save you, offensive cc is obnoxious XD
I use Lifegrip even to force people to push the cart just to get it to the point faster.
I also use it to put people onto high ground
And various other things.
What your suggesting woullllddd put Lifeweaver in around the rank of bronze rank.
Because most players A arent that good or B theres something there hero isnt capable of.
Weaver goes from a masters level hero (My highest rank so far) immediately to silver.
If you can guarentee me better teammates who I don’t have to argue with to not move up and “Make space” all the time because flats or whatever other player said so Ill agree.
Especially people outta VC I gotta pull them back just so I can seal doorways without trapping them.
One of his cooldown abilities would be entirely based on the judgement of his team, then. Depending on who you play with, it could be a good ability or bad ability, and that’s just not fair.
Blizzard has ALREADY talked about why this isn’t going to happen.
Quote the Blizzard.
Teamwork—including depending on and trusting your allies—is crucial to Overwatch combat. It’s possible to use different abilities in ways that don’t always have a positive outcome for your team: think of Mercy using her rez at just the wrong moment.
They had an interview where they talked about who’s skill is being tested when an ability is used.
It is Life weavers ability, and it is life weavers players skill which is being tested, when he uses that ability, not yours.
It is like Mei’s wall. You may dislike the wall she places, but it isn’t not your ability to override. She wins or loses based on how well she picks when and where those walls go.
Basically. Not your ability, not your skill test, so you don’t get to override it. (without burning an ability of your own)
I always tell LW on my team to let me die and not pull me. The amount of times LW pulls have messed up my aim, my sleep and my nade is too high. My fav ones are pulling me when I am about to sleep Bob so he is now free to shoot at my team. Not even going to go into troll pulls. Those are an immediate report.
Only communicated and coordinated pulls are ok everything else is a no no.
Because every mindlessly charging Mauga/Rein/inserttankhere would turn it off resulting in a lost team fight when they inevitably explode trying to 1v6.
