Give me ONE good reason why they shouldn’t remake overwatch in unreal engine 5…
20XX release date
Chars
Because
It’d take way too much time
UE5 is overused
The ow engine is made for ow, having exclusive features
It saves money to blizzard (ok this is not a good reason for us consumers)
Summary
No?
Give me one good reason why they should commit resources to that over other issues with the game
aaaand there’s your reason
Because they are struggling enough as-is to do basic features, and Bobby Kotick won’t pay for the cost of that.
Cause noobs at blizz are breaking engines they are supposed to have built or worked in for years.
DO you want to see what all they could break in a thirdparty engine.
Also Blizzard wont want to give 5% royalty to EPIC.
Because I don’t have a free name change left to rename myself to Lara0FPS
BTW a realistic looking engine won’t add much to a cartoony style game.
I mean just look how bad Fortnite looks even though it came after OW1.
jesus i think i just agreed with you
wouldnt help with everyone’s complaint about screen clutter either
That would be like 4+ year project, the only thing that would carry over is the art work which does not include assets like shaders or lighting all that would have to be done from scratch. Everything would need to be programmed from scratch, devs most likely would need a lot of time just to learn the engine if their not familiar with it. (look what happened in KH3)
Content would need to stop again for them to double down on getting everything back to speed, doubly so because their also scrapping PVE which is suppose to integrate with the content we already have in OW2.
Actually, and I know this sounds silly, but Fortnite looks incredible since the UE5 update. Say what you want about the gameplay, but it’s now a beautiful game that really shows how much cartoony games can benefit from good graphics engines.
Also despite all the best efforts by new team4 to hog the game, the engine actually runs like butter both on laptop and pc something i cant say for UE stuff.
I think you tried to refer to “lumen and nanite” which is a opt in choice. They’re also lighter then hardware ray tracing. But to make it properly work you also have to implement virtual shadows(biggest fps killer)
For example in fortnite i can absolute get 120 fps with lumen and nanite alone. But as soon as i turn on virtual shadows(even to medium) my fp drops to 50-70 let alone if i turn it all the way to epic quality.
And that’s with upscaling tech btw.
Fortnite also hates AMD, the game ran worse on my (previously) top of the line system last season than my phone.
Isn’t unreal engine more designed for open world games and not fps multiplayer games?
Cause it’s a waste of time and money when they already got an engine to run OW2.
What for? Their own engine does everything they want already.
Competition is mother of innovation. No matter how cool UE5 is, its a good idea to not all being sumbitted to it to avoid giving them too much “power” (like Microsoft had over OS or Steam had for a long time over digital selling).
System prerequisites. UE5 targets higher configs. Blizzard has always targeted the largest audience to sell more and build larger communities.
Money. If OW2 makes a lot of money, Blizz would owe Epic Games money. Blizz seems to have a more independant state of mind for now.
overwatch uses Entity-Component-System(ECS) architecture and current unreal engine is very bad with it =/
ECS currently allows OW devs to make very rapid changes and implement new heroes / gamemodes etc stuff with very little investment of devs time
Well, that would most likelly means few years of nothing just skins to sell since time to move everything over.
