Hi everyone,
Just today when I logged onto overwatch to play I noticed that my ping in game was extremely higher then what I usually play with, just 2 days ago i was playing fine with around 40ms of ping but today out of the blue I get an average of 400ms. At first I thought it was a problem on my end so I went onto another game but there it worked fine and I wasnt lagging. I tried to reset my computers network priority, switching from 2.4g to 5g networks and also restarted my router and pc which ended up fruitless.
Any insight into what is happening and how to fix it would be appreciated.
Hey VoidEdge,
If you play on PC, can you check to see which server you’re getting connected to? Hit Shift+Ctrl+N while in a match and check the server name in brackets and server IP.
Then run a WinMTR test to that IP and post it here.
- Download WinMTR
- Right-click on the downloaded .zip folder and select “Extract All”, to extract the files to a new folder.
- Open the new folder that was created, then open the WinMTR_x64 folder.
- Right-click on the WinMTR application and select “Run as administrator”.
- Launch Overwatch and join a match. Once you’re in the match, press Ctrl+Shift+N to open the Network Graph.
- Look for the server name displayed in brackets and the IP address at the top. Note you will need to remove the colon and port number after the IP address before running the test. (12.345.67.89:PORT)
- Alt+Tab back to WinMTR, then type the server IP address in the “Host” field.
- Click on “Start” and Alt+Tab back into the game. Allow the test to run for at least 10 minutes or the duration of a match. Click on “Stop” when you’re done playing after you have experienced the latency or connection issue.
- Click on “Copy Text to Clipboard”, paste the results here, then highlight everything and hit the </> button in the posting section so it will allow links.
Thank you so much for the reply Jambrix,
I went into training mode after restarting my PC which again gave no results but then I shut down my PC and left it for about 5 minutes and turned it back on, which seemed to have fixed the problem… very strange. I believe it was a problem with ISP but my problem is now fixed.
Thank you however for replying to my post.
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for the follow-up post as well.
