I’ve noticed some patterns in the forum whenever balance discussion goes into nuances and I’ve kind of come to this conclusion.
-There are too many shields - because
-There is too much burst damage - because
-Sustained fire isn’t effective - because
-There’s too much healing, armor, & non-shield damage mitigation
There’s your core problem There’s too much healing, armor, & damage mitigation
Everything seems to stem from that core problem.
Fix that, then work your way up to buffing sustained damage and nerfing burst damage.
“But that’s not true, it’s because of snipers, not burst damage”
Snipers ARE burst damage…
The minute that characters like soldier, Tracer and Genji became useless is the start of the bad balance in this game.
The time period of Mercy 2.0 into Moira into Brigitte was the beginning of the end. That stretch of patches was obviously meant to appease support players, but it broke the game for everyone.
even more core is the fact they are obsessed with making low skill/low investment characters have the same impact as high investment characters. which effectively removes those characters from the game, because why spend hours mastering a hard character. so you are left with a very boring game. stop caring about if cheezeball characters like orisa, torb, bastion, sym, moira, df, sombra are “viable”.
This is why I defend Doomfist. He’s actually extremely hard to do well on. At least for me. I can barely get 2 kills on him in Mystery Heroes before I die.
Blizzard’s had a history of jerking around support heroes.
I started Overwatch playing Ana primarily. Then, Blizzard decides it’s time to go - 20 to damage. Shifting over to more Lucio/Mercy and Blizzard decides it’s time to shift Lucio’s radius way down and buff the damage, healing, and knockback. Shifting over to Primarily Mercy and Blizzard decides to rework the ultimate.
Overwatch had four healing supports at this point and significantly changed three of them in a short period.
Support pickrates have surged as the power increased and much of the appeal is power based not design based and the design changes have turned some players off or caused them to leave.
It’s not circular, it’s literally linear cause & effect. The bottom of the chain is too much sustain… that sustain isn’t caused by anything else in the chain.
Up to this point, literally 2 weeks ago, Moira was widely criticized as being weak and one of the lesser almost-throwpick heroes.
Yes she did, Moira before Brigitte was the start of “You need to have burst damage to have a chance of killing this target”. It wasn’t as evident because Mercy was flying around pulling off instant resses and then Brigitte’s armor was it’s own demon.
She was part of the shift away from sustained into burst damage needed to kill things.
I think people were just incorrect about her being weak. We see it with so many other characters. It’s not that they’re weak it’s just that other characters are better for the particular meta.
I still don’t understand where people get this “Too much healing” thing from?
Back in 2016, when Soldier had 20 damage and was “op” Ana was able to dish out 1k healing every 5 seconds to someone, ontop of her already 93hps
Now the only way she gets even CLOSE to that is a grenaded ultimate
Like the simple fact that Zen’s ult, went from 200hps to 300hps and people can STILL die through it is CRAZY to think that healing is too high
Also Tanks are generally WEAKER than they have ever been?
You literally cannot dive as Winston anymore without being instantly killed and he has had nothing but BUFFS (Other than the global armour nerf); How did a character go from being one of the best in the game, to trash, without healing being buffed once in that time, and then being so easy to kill you can’t even do what they were made to do
You skipped a step. You know why there’s so much healing, armor, and damage mitigation in the game?
Because every single 6v6 competitive map requires somebody in the game to stand in a particular spot for an extended period of time. While they are there, the game is telling the enemy team that they are there and there’s a very good chance that they have somewhere between minimal and no cover. That sounds like a suicide mission doesn’t it? Well it is… unless you have all that healing, armor, and damage mitigation to allow you to not die horribly.
Yeah people cry about her killing but I think her overall change to the “culture” of Overwatch is when played properly she puts out the highest amount of healing. If my tank is being attacked and I throw a healing orb and focus fire my pee on him, he’s not going to die.
Moira is how I first broke into Diamond so I’m well aware of her capabilities.
It’s definitely circular. Damage Mitigation is shields/DM, tanking. So, your argument can be simplified as.
There are too many shields because there are too many shields.
If you had just said in that last point there’s too much healing and left off the damage mitigation part then your argument wouldn’t be circular. It would basically be saying we need to nerf healing and burst damage. But the second you add shields back into the equation, it’s a circular argument.
