This thing is really annoying. When I try to choose perk in heat of the battle, sometimes I click the wrong one and I am stuck with it for the rest of the game.
Since some perks takes away something from the default kit to compensate - this sucks.
Either leave the time window for a change there or allow us to set perks for each hero as permanent option before game (unless changed).
As non english native, I struggle sometimes to read the perks and choose the right one in the heat of the moment. Sometimes, I just misclick, when I go automaticaly for the familiar one.
Please, change it.
They’ve said this is an unfortunate side effect but thus far they don’t want to change it.
But I agree with you, OP.
Did you set up hotkeys (which I happened to do today) to auto-select them? It can help. Then you can just memorize L or R (doubled) for the heroes you play.
I have memorised perks for hero I play, yet for some reason I clicked on wrong perk due some brainfart + speed. I hate those moments. I pick Phara to boop people on Illios or Lijan tower and accidently select “vacum” - hence I loose her boop ability and whole hero is pointless on that map for me. Same happend with Lucio and his boop perk, that I accidently didn´t select.
Maybe it’ll just take time to get used to, but you can also try setting them to something like F5 and F12 so it’s impossible to pick the wrong one.
They can reset them on hero swap. They already do that when you swap to a different one, just allow you to swap to one hero real quick and then swap back. That’s a MUCH better solution that what is currently in place.
You can´t reset it with swap unfortunately.
But if you swap to another hero, you have no perks but get them MUCH quicker. Just allow to swap to a new one and back to your old one and follow the same logic.
Idk, I kinda like to swap between heroes and have there perks already. I would rather have some time window for a change, when you set the up.
How often are you swapping heros only to swap back to them again? At the moment, only the perks of heroes you played as remain. If you change to someone else, you get them at an accelerated pace.
As a support and Ana main, sometimes 2 - 3 times per game. Depends on the enemy flankers. When they switch off Sombra, I like to go back to Ana, whenever I got a chance.
I can see the good and the bad with a perk swap system. Yes sometimes you mis-click a perk and cant change it, and that sux. But if you could even with a timer you would have situations with perks that effect ults and such like Ana {Gain 2nd perk and pick Shriek, pop ult, instantly swap to crit damage perk}.
Oh right. Open queue. My fault for not thinking about that. A reset perk option on the hero screen would be my next personal suggestion. I think it’s just the right amount of fairness to get it at an accelerated rate.
All I know is, I STILL haven’t been able to remember which perks are where in the heat of the moment. I see the icon and that’s helped the most but I made mistakes now and again. I think the whole thing is just abhorrently designed. This is just a nitpick but I’ve been accidentally alt tabbing when trying to swap because I compulsively look at the scoreboard to track our teams ults. Can I change button? Yes. But these stock experiences are the difference between good and bad design.
No? Just role Quick play xD
Than make it lock after using ult, whatever…I am sure there are ways to make it work.
I do that on Mercy. I press alt to select perk but I’m boosting or healing and forget, lol
This is why I want an autoperk system, like choosing your perks before game in main menu or character menu, not during game, and if you want flexibility you can not use it
ive done it more than once slected the wrong perk as Tracer while when it comes to support i dont know hat woul be good
An easy fix is we should be able to access the perk selection screen at any time. That way we can pre-select them when we are not busy, like when running back from spawn or after winning a team fight. As support the perk selection always comes up in the heat of a crazy battle and sometimes it results in me or a teammate dying because I’m fumbling with the screen. A few times I accidentally alt tabbed and everyone died.
Would be better to just queue it up beforehand.
The good news is that with Mercy, it literally does not matter because her perks are as fake as our content creation scene.
Ive had this issue but I treated the Perks like a language, a visual langauge. I dont even read Peeks anymore, I just look at the symbol and understand it conceptually based on the design of the visual components of the symbol. Also remembering the direction of the Perk (left or right). I highly recommend studying the visual symbols.
I’ve done that many times now. It’s especially bad when you are playing a character you don’t play that often.
