Getting really tired and bored with Overwatch. Is Paladins any better?

What I love in OW is the easyness of how you can learn the game in like one day and how good teamwork actually feels. There are some champs with really cool and fun mechanics.

However I am getting tired and bored with all this game flaws.

Role Queue means you can play DPS freely only in qp classic and the whole comp is getting worse patch after patch. I love playing all roles they are getting boring too with how much meta some of champs are.

There are many other things that I don’t like as well but I dont want to make it crying thread. I just think I need to get a break from OW to enjoy it when i will be back someday.

I was thinking about Paladins. Never played it. What does it feels like? Lets say I loved playing Widow, Rein and Mercy in OW. Will I find something simillar there? Some more cool and fun mechanics? Does teamfights and those little teamwork moments feel as good as in OW? I don’t have any other alternative games in mind. My only shot was LoL where I loved supporting. I don’t have money for prepaid and new exps for WoW to play healers ;/ Evolve had some cool supports but I guess its dead now too.

Paladins is a breath of fresh air, but still has its own issues. You’ll run into the game’s flaws after enough time into it once the learning curve and newness of the game wears off. There is fun to be had in playing more hero variations and being able to customize each hero to your liking in a way. You could run a damage support or full healing support possibly.

It does have run issues worse than overwatch. Several times I played in groups of people of a dozen friends and several had issues where they were kicked from the game. There is a 30min penalty for leaving a quick play game for any reason.

The inability to change characters during a game is annoying as you can get hard countered with no way to fix the situation.

There are several annoying aspects of the game like overwatch such as 90% healing reduction mid-late game if teams stack cauterize game rewards (though this might have changed recently). Makes tanking feel awful.

Since the game is all platforms quick play means you might play with 3 platform and those people get destroyed by people who flank over them at times due to turning radius and precision aiming needed at times. (Willo, Maeve, etc.)

To me, the game lacks a world and story. At least overwatch has characters with dialogue and back stories that are fun to have. Overall, more personality. There is also a bunch of dumb stuff you can stack in the game as well such as massive sniper hitboxes or people going invisible.

It was a reprieve from Overwatch for me for a time, but I still liked overwatch better after playing tens of hours of paladins.

No. Paladins is clunky garbage. Especially compared to Overwatch.

Do what I’m doing and wait for PvE.

This is accurate. Paladins is fun but the problem is that competitive takes ages with all the hero banning nonsense that takes place before the game begins. The customisation of the characters is nice but in the end the games play out quite like Overwatch where one team stomps another. Also the menus etc are buggy. However it is worth playing for fun if you’re bored.

Isn’t it… free? Go play it and find out for yourself

it has a lot of net code issues and it doesn’t have the full experience like OW. tho. it has a lot more fun characters t play than OW. i wish it had better net code and budge to make it an over the top experience

hackers are kinda frequent too. not cs go bad but. not ideal

It’s ok, it is just very rough in certain places.

I would personally recommend Rainbow Six or even Destiny 2 over it. Or Mordhau, it’s also a really good game.

Are you a casual gamer? If so, Paladins is much better than OW.

Generally, I’ve found it feels more balanced than OW, though there is still a lot of overlap with Overwatch characters. Makoa, for example, is extremely similar to Roadhog, and I’m forgetting his name because I don’t play a huge amount of frontline but there’s a Rein-style character as well.

Teamfights are much more independent. Frontline and supports have less team value in fights than in OW, but they’re also much independently stronger, and you can easily out-duel Damage or Flanker characters with either. So… teamwork is lower, but encounters feel better because I think everybody more-or-less has the same level of team dependence, which is what Overwatch’s problem boils down to

Overwatch does have much better lore and a better competitive experience, though. I can’t say that I’ve found Paladins to be considerably buggier than OW, but I also probably don’t pay as much attention

Unbiased opinion:

Pros: Paladins offers the superior tank/Support experience because of how the card system, load out and Their mechanics work. You can always pick up the slack for crap teammates by just killing the enemy or outdueling enemy flankers And you can spec your hero that way in favor of negating your utility as a tank/support . You can customize your champ based on what your team needs. No more having to babysit 5 randoms and hoping someone will help you with a Doomfist…also there’s no Mei. Supports feel really impactful as it’s not all about being a healbot.

Damage heroes are a bit overturned in that they are too squishy given the absurd amount of damage they deal, which leads to fights snowballing a lot. In comp this slows down a bit but a good DPS is obvious and has to fight less utility that covers the enemy team from their skill. So in that context getting value out of your DPS vs tanks/supports is more fun than in OW.

Cons:

Since it’s free, the general playerbase is pretty bad at the game, and people have the same desire to always pick DPS. This is counterbalanced by you building your Tank/Support enough time overcome them.

Game is buggy and you will encounter a lot of issues, none that are too game breaking though.

Hitboxes on weapons are huge making it easy for everybody, snipers included to hit with their guns. For some that makes it too easy and less appealing, but if you’re just after fun, it does feel good to play a sniper and have a easier time sniping people.

Getting into a competitive game takes way too long. From finding a match and drafting to just loading up. If the comp mode wasNr as long I’d play more.

Lastly, And most importantly for me as a OW Tank/Support player - the relationship between Flankers and supports is much healthier as, their is so much counter play between the two that it doesn’t feel oppressive. A lot of OW support and tank players have told me that’s why they converted, and why I enjoy those classes far more in Paladins than I do OW.

tbh I play paladins on the switch and I don’t think is as good as overwatch (IMO)

Dirty Bomb is better if you want a fun shooter with classes, but without heavy focus on abilities. You can be a support, objectives specialist, marksman or general purpose DPS, enough variety to keep anyone interested. Larger teams also mean that competition is not too fierce and you can play at your own pace.

It’s better for making creative builds of your champion. You have a deck system to build which drastically alters your character’s playstyle, then in-match items to buy which further tailor a custom kit for you

But it’s worse in that you don’t care about the characters, there’s no emotional connection, and it’s less polished in general (plus some might not like the primary game modes all being 5v5)

It’s funny/versatile and have many characters that’re OP if you play them right, I have 900+ hours in that game.

But the problem for me is that the game is extremely sexist, so there’s a lot of skins that shows parts of the feminine cast of the game that doesn’t respect their personalities or even coordinate with the rest of the male cast. So in their minds boobs = money.

That’s why I’m in Overwatch now, the skins of the characters actually respect their owner - matching completely and going with the style of the game.

Oh boy I checked that one out and it looks really i mean REALLY promising. I like the idea of this guy with mines. Immediately got some Battlefield Heroes vibes where I played Traper. Gotta check that one out

Remember that to be quick, you need to memorize pulling out melee weapon, toggling sprint on, and doing short crouch+jump maneuver. It’s like Half-life’s long jump ,and you can long-jump at the wall and then do long-jump off of the wall for massive distance gain.

It’s a Hi-Rez game, so it’s going to be a typical Hi-Rez experience. Meaning, some cool ideas that are marred by poor quality animations, little hit/action feedback, rampant sexism, aggressive F2P monetization, and various other things that make it feel low budget.

The buggiest game I’ve ever played by a mile.

It feels floaty, buggy, and the balancing is so freaking awful I uninstalled. I thought ow had bad balancing until i started playing paladins.

Is less frustrating. At least at the lvl i play. Oneshots are really rare
