Get ready for the DirectX 12 beta on Overwatch 2!

What I’m personally more interested in are consequenses of OW2 going to DX12 era is compatibility of OW2 for translation layers and VM-s on macOS. Or, what would be much much better, implementation of Vulkan and Metal APIs right along DX12.

Please, Team 4 and Blizzard, you can earn more money for game if you’d add folks from macOS and Linux to the consideration! I’ve played hundreds of hours before you broke compatibility with Crossover, and spent quite a decent on BPs.

They did a study the human eye has a higher refresh rate, but the brain still processes at the lowest about 30 and at most 74-77 fps at around 90hz. I don’t know what it’s such a huge margin might be something to do with nerves. That is why I never really understood monitors at 120 or higher its extra work for nothing you can even see its mostly used as a way of just processing faster than us being able to detect visual issues. Anyone that states differently is lying and has no idea how biology works. It’s mostly that those monitors refresh so fast that you then loose what’s called the scan interpolation. When you’re at 144 its merely refreshing so fast that you then never detect any in between and you wasted your money on very little gain. The retina even on drugs will never be able to process information that quickly. I think eagles and cheetahs are the only other species to have a faster retina, but I could be wrong it’s been a while since I studied it. If you don’t believe me, go and look up a few medical journals it’ll explain it better, than anything I have said. Just don’t buy a faster refresh until you watch or play something on one in person

did you read anything what i said? its not about the actual single images reaching the brain, but about the clarity of the image in motion. and its absolutely a massive jump from 60 hz to 144 hz alone in the gain of visual clarity while in a match which gives the brain less fatigue and makes it easier to track vital information.

The issue about this is that its not only noticed “fps” or reaction times.
With current display technology motion blur is an issue. This is separate problem and completely tied on how current monitors work (if they do not use BFI / strobing)

Anyone can easily test this effect on their home pc with testufo or just scrolling web pages at different refresh rates.

how about stop changing graphics in the game. It makes it “sttt uuttter” for fps and actually work on something useful like idk…

YOUR WRETCHED QP MATCH MAKER YOU ARE NEGLECTING.

Why would they unearth a finished game just to add DX12?

Cause they constantly tweak their doom games , they even added obscure metal support but made sure to ignore directx 12 cause it is inferior and it’s not like ow needs a upgrade either unless it’s significant enough like vulkkan.

why are there still people who think this in 2025? your brain isnt a computer and has no set framerate. some people see and react faster than others because the pathways in their brains are more streamlined for that kind of work. your brain processes information as fast as it receives it. if your eyes see 240 individual frames a second you have more information to work with than if you were playing at 120.

60 vs 120 vs 144 vs 240 ect has been tested time and time again and consistently higher framerate/refreshrate = better performance and better in game feel for top level performance.

“Tweak” is different than implementing an entirely new graphics API to an engine released 7 years ago. The ROI on that is nonexistent.

It is adding ofcourse for competentent people it’s tweaking.

Ofcourse for incompetent people it’s adding especially when adding a poor performing renderer to a 10 yr old game.

Sure the roi on giving performance issues in exchange for more requirements on a 10 yr old game must be fantastic especially when compared to a readily available better option

Sounds like a graphics update coming? Game is starting to look like WoW at this point so it’s time. Once Switch 2 is out, they should shut down support for PS4, XO and Switch 1 and upgrade visuals.

Given how much they" upgraded " their own engine to a "New":exploding_head::crazy_face: engine.

I would be very of their graphical updates.

They are worse than enb preset kids at this point.

OW2 was still bound to Switch. They couldn’t do much with it.

And if they didn’t do much it still would have been better for switch.

They already talked switch port with "upgrade"engine

I think they are planning to brick it with this one :joy:

Any plans for Vulkan support?
In my experience it yields a tangible performance improvement over DX.

I personally do think with DX12 we might get a form of raytracing. However, most players would probably turn that off for performance.

Playing on Linux Manjaro, the DirectX12 option shows up in the drop down menu, can be selected and properly displays “a restart is required to apply some settings” warning.

Restarting the game to apply it resets the setting to DirectX11 without telling the user about it, however.

It disabled dlss on my computer when I used it just had far and xess as options until I moved back to 11 so I’ll pass

First off, it’s not about seeing individual frames. It’s about a smoother image, and most importantly, less input lag. Higher fps gives less input lag. That’s why people get higher refresh rate monitors

This would be amazing!
