"Get in the dropship!": Is there something I'm missing?

This might be a stupid question, so I apologise in advance.

So, in every match I’ve had since Archives started, there’s always at least one, usually three people who refuse to get into the dropship while playing Retribution. It can sometimes take upward of five minutes and me running around reviving people and trying to get their attention to finally get people in the ship.

While I know level means absolutely nothing in Overwatch, I’d think paying attention to a plethora of different cues (e.g. Blackwatch pilot shouting, a marker on the screen, and/or people in chat) would make this a very simple and obvious mission step.

Is there something I’m missing about this? Like do you get more XP or something if you keep attempting to kill endlessly spawning enemies? It’s a genuine question. I’ve seen more high level (e.g. 400+) doing this than lower level people, so part of me thinks I’m legitimately missing something. Or am I just getting a bunch of new players/trolls?

I think it does, but it’s quite negligible. Most of the time it are probably just people that still want to kill stuff. The only problem is that when everybody does it, you can still lose.

Anyway, fun fact: if the rest dies and you’re alone on the dropship, the mission ends as well.

Okay, thank you! That’s what I figured. I know there’s a timing aspect to the scoring, so that’s part of the reason I’m rushing into the ship.

As a support main this kills me but I’m absolutely letting this happen from now on.

Remember that you will qualify for the win if you get in the dropship even if your teammates do not.

People tend to grind out the final stand on Retribution to improve their personal scores for no reasonable reason.

They just have to die first to finish.

True that and when they do die, then you just laugh and eat popcorn from the safety of the dropship.

Bless, thank you for replying! I appreciate the sanity check and I’ll just have to watch the world burn from the safety of the ship, haha. I definitely don’t remember this problem last year.

It was a rampant problem in the first week of the event as the game would end in failure if all four players failed to report to the dropship. The devs had to rush out a new patch to deter and negate the prolific behavior.

I absolutely believe that. I probably blocked it out. It’s the best mechanism for self-defence. :joy:

Yeah, this has been a problem since last year. People either refuse to get onto the dropship because they don’t know it any better and firmly believe they have to fight a plethora of incoming enemy waves or they simply don’t feel like it and want to farm xp’s instead, maybe even troll and get on everybody’s nerves.
Blizzard had to fix this issue by making the dropship lift off even if everbody else dies while you’re the one standing aboard the ship. Before that fix, you had to actually revive your partners in order to complete the mission, otherwise it was a defeat. I’m glad they worked against this abuse… it’s so much easier to just let them do their suicide run while chilling inside the dropship, waiting for them to finally perish. :smiling_imp:

Oh I do this to get super high stats for no reason other than to gloat in front of my friends.

My best us 69,000 damage on specials as d.va

Now that I think about it, this might be why I am apt to revive at least one of them or attempt to heal. I may be instinctually remembering that and forgetting about that patch.

It’s just fun sometimes to stick around for a bit longer.

Let them die while you sip tea from the dropship. I’ve left 5 genji’s behind just today.

Leave them literally dead. Blizz already fixed this problem, you can now end the mission and the ship leaves without them. You will leave the dead bodies behind lol

Hahaha, valid. I absolutely love playing D.Va in Retribution. Out of curiosity, do you expect to receive heals as you’re going or is it just like a personal challenge and you just go until you die?

No not really. I only ever do it on hard because people really try for higher difficultly settings so I don’t want to throw and easy is kinda boring.

That being said D.Va is completely self sufficient if you use DM correctly on hard and I survived without heals for a really long time. For some reason the assassin bots are completely bugged and get stuck in some weird places so they can’t take you down early (they also almost never target D.va when in mech and most if the time will attack people in the dropship first) and the bug guys are free ult charge to combo bomb with when you get to low.

For improving their personal score for me to brag about.

Last year the dropship left after a certain amount of time after the patch. Whether your team was alive or not. No idea why this isn’t a thing this year.

At least on all heroes mode.

I still remember playing as Mei and activating her Hop emote to slowly work my way onto the ship. My team laughed at the effort, but we all made it.
