Read a pop book or two on psychology, and you’ll understand perfectly well why such things happen (or the most probable reasons).
Do people still use the word scrub? I would find it difficult to take their insult seriously if they were using slang from two decades ago. Gee wizz Mister, you are not any gol durn good at this game. Swings elbows around.
People will say anything to get a rise out of people. We suck as a species, and they are just expressing that aspect of humanity.
Them: “Git gud, scrub!”
Me: “How about you scrub deez…?”

Alot of people rely on their performance in video games for all their confidence. So, when they do whatever it is they deem “Really Good” they go ego mode because they cant control their own responses to things

You’re misunderstanding them, they want you to get good and scrub things like dishes.
