Genuine question: What is the point of Doomfist on defence?

I am honestly asking, since 90 % of my defense games with Doom as a tank (not me) are awful expirience ending in lose.

Hyper mobile dive hero with the capability for high burst damage, targeted picks, and/or general disruption.

Defense means not allowing your enemy to take the point, which they can’t if you attack and kill them

I mostly see Dooms balls deep in enemy backline, while rest of the enemy team is destroying us - supports and dps.
There is almost 0 tanking and even if we have dive comp and someone actualy goes with Doom - enemy is trying to steal the point with some hypermobile hero.

The mission stays the same. Your team also has to play attack with you. If you’re hopping around backline and they’re not helping you secure kills it’s on all of you for not working together.

I will shorten the question even more: “What is the point of Doom in general?”

That might look good on a “paper”, but reality is - most of the time, team is not dive and it´s mix of everything.
Dive mind is more natural and more present in teams on attack.

It doesn’t have to be a dive team. I don’t play doomfist but I’ve played on defence with him multiple times. He causes the disruption but the team, whether flankers or hitscan should be taking off angles to pour damage onto the incoming enemy. It’s about not letting them get to the objective without losses. once you have the numerical advantage the rest should follow given nobody on your team is an incompetent feeder.

Than why is most of my games with Doom on defense a disaster?
I do what I can - playing heroes, that can heal on large distance, pulling him into safety and I hate every single game like this.

It depends. If his team doesn’t have a dive, flanker or anything to go to enemy supports easily. Is more optimal for him to do so.

Several heroes can stall the enemy advance for it, like: mei, torb, bastion, lucio, junk, pharah. While the said doom could do his thing.

On defense most heroes will work, but also all of them only works if the team itself help each other. Doesn’t matter picking rein by example while the enemy having sojourn and soldier using space on high ground and your team not negating it. In that regard winston, dva and doom would better picks than rein.

Almost all compositions on OW2 and at some degree on OW1, required someone to flank, dive or disrupt, that job often was on tanks, doom, soldier, sombra, pharah, lucio, junk, echo, sym or mei.

Now if nobody get that space or focus on enemy supports. Tank would pick the job and leave the team to do whatever they can to stay alive while the tank negate heals for the enemy team. If tank doesn’t protect supports, is for the next one on the ladder to do so.

Most of the time, tanks are the more adequate tool to do protection or actually dive/disrupt. But having only one, if they stick in one of those, the other would be required for the team manage.

Unless your doom, wasn’t performing well and wasn’t giving you guys time without certain menaces, is more about team composition/formation than the tank’s fault.

While I get that objectives are priority, trying to keep them off of it is also a strategy. Some heroes can do that, like mei.

So, in this regard. Maybe is just your team not exactly knowing what to do because doom is doing a job that your team isn’t expecting him to do, he is in somewhat similar(not exactly the same rank, due the current system) rank than your team, maybe he is playing a 4D chess and your team doesn’t understand or simply you folks are in different ranks and that played a big factor, either way. Unless doom was getting pretty much hardcountered, he most likely were fine and the issue could be team based not exactly individual based.

The best defense is a good offense.

Because doomfist is quite hard to get a hang with and as a result it’s really easy to feed on him resulting in a stomp. Defense is just more punishing to die in since it usually means loss of intermediary objective especially if it’s the tonk

Outside of the flanking-on-defense debate, on some maps being able to access high ground - and boop enemies off of it! - is valuable, attack or defense.

Exactly. Than why people pick him so much and fail?

Being a highly mobile tank is great on both attack AND defense. Though it probably depends more on the map than anything.

fun.

That should be the main point for any kit being used in the game. Even if the point made is murky and mixed with other reasons.

well, to put it simply, i know this answer might be frustrating, but how else can one be good at doomfist ? or tracer, or any other character that are more difficult to play ? they will have to try, fail and yes throw many games because they made mistakes. it is not enough to watch guides and streamers otherwise i’d be THE BOMB at tennis from all the hours i’ve watched federer play but i would probably be unable to even serve xd

By playing Doom on anything else, than defense? It´s pretty succesful on attack or other maps, so I don´t see your point…

well if one never practices doomfist on defense then they will never be very good at playing doomfist on defense, no matter how they play it in other contexts
