So usually, I get on here and rant about how many losses I have etc I’m sure most of y’all have seen it. But I don’t think I’ve ever asked why the game keeps me at a negative win rate. I’ve definitely brought it up tho I know that for sure. Like sure I get wins or small win streaks here and there, but I feel like the losses outweigh them, right? But just generally curious as to why I have to stay at an about 12/13 game difference between my wins/losses (losses being higher).
Generally from what I’ve seen/experienced, well say im at 13 games, ill close the gap with wins and it becomes a 3 game difference right? But then suddenly when im about to overtake the losses, i start going win loss win loss loss win and it starts getting kinda finicky. Then what usually happens is it turns into more losses eventually putting me back into the 12/13 difference. Most the time the losses are very 1 sided but not here to get into that.
Generally, overall I know I’m gold, its where I belong I’m fine with it, I don’t consider myself some high rank player, I know there’s stuff I need to work on/improve etc etc, but was just curious if anyone had insight or ideas as to why they think the game tries to keep me at the negative win rate.
I think it tries to keep your overall record (all comp seasons) close to 50/50. Almost every account I’ve played has ended up exactly 50.00000000% win rate over 1000’s of games. Some seasons I go +30 and other seasons -30. But eventually it ends up back at 50% again. It doesn’t really matter what my rank is.
From the matchmakers perspective, if you keep winning, they’ll put you in higher rated lobbies until you level back out to 50%, BUT there are a number of factors they can’t account for. The reality is that a handful of placement games isn’t enough data to know how good a player is (some of your teammates may be fresh off placements). Further, they have no idea when a player is suddenly going to start playing above or below expectation. They have no way of accounting for tiredness, tilt, disconnects, weird decision making (e.g., a support doing more DPS or trying a new suboptimal flank they don’t normally go for), players trying a new character out that they’re not as good with… a moira main who thinks they can aim suddenly and tries to play Ana, then has to switch back mid-game (that’s a joke, sorry moira mains).
My guess is that if you’re upset about your loss streaks, you may experience slightly below 50% win rate, because you’re playing at your average, then start to tilt and play several games below your “true” or average ranking. We tend to play more games when we’re losing to make up the lost points, and relatively fewer games when we’re winning if tilt is a factor. Costs many gambling addicts their savings.
Ow2 does not motivate people to improve, in some way quite apposite. You need independent opinion(s) from people. Try to ask forum and provide game codes.
I do this yes but what I hate it when I don’t, say I lose 3 games ill call it and come back tomorrow, 3 more losses call it, next day 3 more losses call it, take a week off 3 more losses at some point it’s just frustrating doesn’t matter the day or the time it literally feels like it sets me up to drop and idk why. Like right now for instance I had 2 horrendous losses in a row, I was at an 8-game difference and now I’m at a 10-game difference the game is ALWAYS creeping me back up to the 12/13 difference, but it can never do that for the wins.
It’s absolutely ridiculous to me, if im gonna lose fine BUT at least make them fair losses, 85% of the time my losses generally look like my team has 2 kills 14 deaths while enemy has 25 kills 3 deaths. Like I wanna be on the enemy team but that never seems to be the case. Most the time Im on the team thats setup to lose, I dont wanna be, but I dont know what to do to change it. Like I said before Im not expecting to be some high ranked player blah blah blah but I would at least like a chance/attempt at it through fair matches.
its not even close to 50% any time i close the gap to make it 50% i get thrown into unwinnable games putting me back at the 12 game difference. It doesnt make any sense. Any time i drop close to silver the game slingshots me back to gold 1/2 but then all of sudden it slingshots me back down to low gold rinse and repeat. It will not let me break the cycle and I for the life of me do not understand why.
