Sometimes I wonder if these characters are too rewarded for the skill they require. I mean, rewarding skill is good. But there is a discrepancy between their reward, and the rewards 80% of the roster get.
Every time I see a smurf, they’re always on one of these three characters and easily 1v3ing or 1v4ing the enemy team.
It is easy to deal with them if you are around the same skill level as them… but if they are significantly higher than you, you don’t stand a chance.
I see lots of Doomfist smurfs these days, so I’d throw him in the pile too.
McCree/Reaper smurfs are only common if they have their pocket healer with them (and by pocket healer I mean Mercy ofc).
I met one Junkrat smurf once.
EDIT:
…then that’s not a smurf, unless there’s something you’re not telling us about your own behavior, my dude.
That statement would presume the characters are underpowered, then.
This would be the case if they were on any character. Dafran can 1v4 silver with Torb. IDDQD did it with Mercy.
Characters should be balanced on equal footing matches. Smurfs don’t define hero balance. Nerfing a hero because of smurfs is equal in logic to buffing characters because of bad players.

It’s probably more the fact that these characters are more satisfying to do well on, even if you’re a smurf.
Dafran was 1v4ing as both Soldier and Torbjorn through the low ranks on fresh accounts. When someone’s a smurf, the hero they pick is irrelevant. They’re significantly better regardless.
I’m not asking for nerfs lol. No. Not even thinking about nerfs.
Just raising some questions.
Got’cha.
Well, it’s just a simple case of skill ceiling. But theoretically, that same player would bring about just as much chaos on Hanzo / McCree / Soldier, etc. I think sometimes they just pick those heroes to look cooler. XD

There’s no way to play Genji or Tracer in high ranks (in any rank, actually).
That’s why high rank players hop on low rank smurfs, it’s basically the only way to play Tracer and Genji again.
You want less Tracer/Genji smurfs in your games? Advocate for actually fixing these characters and making them viable again.
P.S. No, it’s not a hero’s “fault”, a GM player can ruin your day on almost any character. Tracer’s only “crime” is that she’s fun to play.
Also, you are two years late.
24th,15th, and 26th pickrates in GM respectively, the highest skilled ELO we have numbers on. If their returns were too high for their skill required it would show up here.
Now you could argue that double barrier really hamstrings them and this isn’t how powerful they really are, but to really test that we would need to take out double barrier meta first. And I suppose if it’s in the name of science we could take out this god awful meta.
The idea of balancing the game around standing a chance against smurfs or cheaters has always been odd to me. It doesn’t sound nor feel correct to me to care how well a hero performs in an obviously against the rules scenario. I’m not saying it isn’t a problem (well, symptom) that doesn’t need addressing… I just feel they need to look at the reasons people smurf in the first place and limit them. There are a lot of reasons to smurf, especially if you want to play an off pick like tracer who is impractical as you approach your sr.
