Genji skin favoritism is out of hand

Just to give you an idea, genji:

  • Tied for first hero to get an Overwatch League skin
  • Second hero to get duplicate OWL skins (when over a dozen heroes have none)
  • First hero to get a mythic skin
  • One of only 2 heroes to get multiple remix skins (when over 15 heroes got none)
  • one of the handful of heroes to get a blizzcon skin
  • got a special promotional skin for HotS
  • Will be tied with for most legendary items once this new skin comes out

Just ridiculous

genji is one of the most popular heroes in the game, what do you expect? genji, dva, mercy, and tracer tend to get the most and the best skins. they’re the most played and most liked characters, of course they’re going to get the most content. i wish more characters would receive some sick skins too, but eh, dont care too much. cosmetics aren’t that important to me anymore. also, the remix skins were mostly just boring recolors lol, who actually cares who got them?

I agree it’s frustrating. There are so many heroes that don’t have OWL skins.

Can’t wait for Genji to get his second mythic skin before more than half the roster gets their first.

It’s so f*n dumb like??? And now genjibwas even revealed with a mythical skin or whatever the new ones are called for ow2…

Like idgaf if genji is a popular hero or whatever, it’s pure bullsh*t that he’s getting so many skins!

Other heroes are in need of them and not only him!

In the new OW2 era, we’ll see:

less “Hero X is OP” threads

and more “Hero X has the most skins” threads.

This is nothing new in the gaming world. Popular heroes always get more skins, Blizzard has been far more fair in the cosmetic department than most.

This latest one is really quite wasteful though. There’s a reason why you never see anyone using Young Genji/Sparrow and I highly doubt slapping some skin on is going to change that. Especially not when many vastly superior Genji skins already exist with more on the way.

I don’t know man. Mercy also has two OWL skins, and the coveted BCRF Pink Mercy skin. She also has three of those skins that you could only earn by playing that seasonal event and winning (Snow Angle, Night Mission, and Combat Medic) I’d say she’s pretty favored in terms of skins.

A reason to play the game mostly. Overwatch is only so fun when you get no reward.

These posts about favoritism are out of hand.

Plenty of other heroes like Mercy, Dva, Tracer, and Cree also get plenty of skins, especially good ones. Even Bastion does.

This is how OW2 is going to go, attractiveness sells as does popularity. Best to get used to it now, it’s been 6 years and these posts still pop up with mostly false claims in them.

If you’ll make a post like this, at least include the fact that Pink Mercy is basically the actual first mythic skin and include the fact that Dva also had a promotional hots skin. Stop being so biased.

At this point I hope Genji ends up with the absolute most skins, it is deserved considering he is the most popularly played hero ever based on numerous stats Blizz has shown over the years. Everyone likes the cyborg ninja plus he is hot, just accept reality here.

So wait a sec, we do not know most of the skins coming with season 1 of OW2 but you are somehow sure that none of the heroes he is tied with are going to be getting a skin in season 1 of OW2? That is a bold prediction.

Also let us rewind that a bit. Let us assume that your premise is true and that he remains tied for the most legendary items. By your admission he is TIED for the most legendary items. So apparently they are favoring him only in the sense that he is one of the top choices and not the top choice. However, I can also guarantee that when picking the first Mythic skin they analyzed the data to see which hero would most likely generate revenue.

He once went like, 2 years or so (maybe a little less, I don’t feel like looking it up) only getting 1 skin I think it was.

It’s been a bit much of late, but its not like he has 40 legendary skins and the second most is 12.

He’s one of the most popular characters, and some bias will happen, but I think everyone is blowing this way out of proportion.

And people got equally mad when d.va got 2 remix skins while many heroes got 0

Yep. And people will complain then too.

No! I will continue to seethe until sigma gets an owl skin

I mean you’ll be seething for quite a while then, can’t see Sigma actually selling too much.

I did not see enough posts complaining and even then the complaints are never justified really. They will sell what is attractive that is that?

As a Genji main I agree, and I am willing to give up next two skins for two buffs.

Lol apparently not :rofl::rofl: wtf is this haha i need to edit this, i type pretty fast so sometimes i might mess up haha

Its frustrating but from a developer point of view would you design a skin for a hero tons of people play that everyone will want or a skin for a hero like junkrat or Symmetra that barely anyone plays?

I mean, especially with the game going f2p, the way for the devs to make money to continue a live service with content is to offer skins with a lot of appeal.

If you’re opening a restaurant and you want to turn a profit, odds are you’re going to put a lot of ‘popular’ menu items on, and maybe a few ‘niche’ items. If you just went with less popular picks, you’re not going to get that mass appeal to make money to offer anything at all. It’s just business.

I don’t like or play these ‘popular’ heros, but I understand why they get the lion’s share of skins. It happens in every similarly genred and marketed game. Nothing new.
