Genji’s key problem is his numerous counterpicks. However, only some of them are skill-based characters, while the vast majority of rest are highly primitive characters that are easily to play.
These are Genji’s hard counters (they ignore Genji’s deflect):
winston. zarya, moira, torbjorn, symmetra and sigma.
And these are soft counters:
brigitta, mei, echo, mcree and sombra.
Futhermore, all the latest heroes released by Blizzard make far more difficult to be valuable on Genji: Ashe (shotgun, that provides her with mobility, and dynamite, that is not deflectable), batist (with his cancer lamp and vertical mobility without cooldown).
To sum it up, Genji has the largest number of counterpicks among other heroes, because many of them ignore deflect. In other words, we can claim that Genji plays without 1 ability. Additionally, many of Genji’s counterpicks are meta heroes and most of them are simple to play.
Genji in my opinion is the best projectile hero right now outside of Torb, but they’re all so bad right now that it doesn’t even matter; projectile heroes as a whole suck right now.
That being said I think Genji should get his RoF back, but make it to where you can’t damage boost blade, just like Dragonstrike
Zarya counters everyone besides snipers and hog if she has decent charge, not just Genji
A good Genji player will be in the air while getting flashed by a good McCree player so it’ll throw off his lmb or fan the hammer accuracy
Mei is a dumpster fire and guess what, just dash out homie.
Sombra doesn’t make you completely useless like Doomfist and Ball for example.
Moira counters everyone with poopy aim
I semi agree for the rest though.
Consider yourself lucky that your hero is at least playable and hasn’t been butchered by Blizzard to a point where he’s a throw pick.
No, what he needs is further adjustments in the nerf category.
I don’t know about you all, but I think deflect should only block damage. Maybe rename it if they finally fixed this ability; though it would still technically be deflecting…
