Genji isn't as skilled as people make him out to be

He have a high skill floor. “You have to learn how to do the animations cancell combos”.

But you dont need a lot of skills to be effective. Because the dash, ult and deflect have a massive invisible hitboxs.

Also the right click is really good and you dont need a lot of positions skills.

He’s pretty easy to play

He is easy to play but is very situational.

He’s a middle ground hero.

He’s not super hard like the people who play him make him out to be, but he’s not exactly easy to just pick up and instantly master either.

I think his ult takes skill but the rest is pretty easy

Why? What’s the point?

If you think he isn’t as skilled as people make him out to be…okay?

Many people will still see him as one of the most high skill heroes regardless.

That’s not really high intensity skill mind. Lucio’s wall riding requires more learning than Genji’s animation cancels

The distinction to make is the skill floor and skill ceiling.

Skill floor is the minimum amount of skill you need to be moderately effective with the hero, your barrier to entry basically. Low floor means a new player can jump right in and do decently, while high floor means that you’re gonna need to practice a while before you can pull your weight.

Skill ceiling is the maximum possible potential. Low ceiling means that after you learn a hero’s basics you can’t really do much beyond that. High ceiling means that the hero’s power will keep scaling upwards as your skill scales upwards.

For skill ceiling it’s pretty indisputable that Genji’s ceiling is pretty much infinity. His innate kit has very few limitations if any, the only limit is the player. His skill floor is more debatable. I’d rate it around medium or so.

All of that being said, I’m still not convinced that it’s even all that important in balance discussions if a hero is “easy” or “hard” to play. IMO what matters is primarily how powerful they are regardless of ease of use since skill level is something that changes over time (moving target) while hero power only changes when Blizzard patches it.

Because I want to know why they think so in hopes it’ll change my mind if not I’ll simply continue standing by my opinion simple as that

It’s the same problem for Tracer and Genji. The upper skill limit, the skill ceiling is incredibly high, but at most ranks just being able to move enough so your opponents cannot hit you means there is a fairly low skill floor too. Being effective at the skill floor though, is a completely different story.

I have no clue what half the people are saying here but he is one of the highest skilled characters. It’s easy to dash and deflect, sure. But to utilize his flanker play while peeling back for the team while understanding the limitations to his ult AND simply staying alive, he is simply hard. If he wasn’t we’d have a bunch of Profits running around now wouldn’t we?

Once you learn his combos and how to hit shurikens, skill with Genji become based around positioning and opportunism.

What makes you think Genji isn’t as skilled as people make it out to be then?

Nothing about the flankers is hard like at all ( tracer/genji). That’s due to how forgiving their toolset is. Genji has high mobility, multiple passives, swift strike is an ability that resets on kill or can allow him to get away from situations that aren’t in his favor, deflect can be somewhat be made safe by canceling to swift strike, braindead ult that has a huge hitbox. Like the only thing he is missing a stun ability, he is literally low risk high reward.

What’s with the sudden pop up in “change my mind” posts? Do people not understand the concept of burden of proof?

People seem to be using it in a similar way as “Come at me bro.”

Because when I made an alt account to learn more dps heroes he wasn’t as hard to pick up as people on the forums made him out to be so I wanted to hear their opinions why

Meme going around of a person at a desk with a sign say x statement, change my mind.
