Genji is now the worst hero in the game, and im not even mad

I just tried out the patch, you know, the one most people hate. And you know, I have just 3 complaints.

1.DVA is absolutely unkillable
2.Reapers nerfed with the reduced healing
3.Genji is now the worst hero in the game

But man there are SO many pros. Supports finally cant heal through ultimate’s (except DB), Tanks can actually tank now, what with the increased health, and people are finally dying to what they should be dying to.

So what makes genji horrible? Well for one, dragonblade now takes 3 or 4 hits to kill a “squishy” instead of 2, so essentially genji has no ultimate.

Genjis burst also still does 28 damage per shurkien (still less then melee), and with the buffed health, makes him do less than poke damage.

So pretty much genjis a throw pick, you have to have a good team to win consistently to win with him, but at least hes still fun, which is more than some heros can say.

i dont think genji is the worst hero in the game per say. he did come out a loser in this patch and i know theres a few heroes that are worse of than him at the moment. although i wouldnt mind to see him getting shuriken and dragonblade damage buffs. but of course as long as nanoblade doesnt one shot combo anymore then he can get something like 30dmg shurikens and 130dmg blade.

How is D. VA unkillable? I killed one several times yesterday as Ramattra.

Genji got a faster blade rather than a stronger one.

to be fair… I was playing genji

Truthfully Genjis neutral is way more enjoyable to me now. His blade is balls now though so you have to use it less for its team whipe potential.

oh yeah i forgot about the faster speed. maybe tone that back to 0.8s to balance it out a bit for a stronger blade so regular blade doesnt become too strong with a damage buff per say.

No, Sym is the worst hero in the game right now, her turrets might as well not even count as an ability right now that everyone got their health up while the turrets dmg remains the same

that might be the worst part, nanoblade doesnt 1 shot combo anymore, genji needs buffs

the faster speed hasnt seemed to do much for me, like at all. Speed doesnt really matter with blade, cause you have to oneshot or twoshot enemies, or they will just escape and youll be stuck with a melee attack and no way to switch back to ranged(still want blade to be cancellable.)

this seems to be the problem with all dps heros, the health buff is really messing with some of them(cough* not hitscans), but sym doesnt really have turrets rn, just like genji doesnt really have an ultimate rn. They all need dmg buffs.

let’s not lower genji’s skill floor any more. ults should be a “commit” type of action. it’s fine that when you press Q, you have the decision to either commit or retreat. not cancel it any time. i’m aware a faster swing speed doesnt matter much because a lot of heroes can get away from you but let’s not lower genji’s skill floor please

Ya genji is now more neutral based less ult based which is kind of what lots of players that hated playing against him wanted. I always like a strong neutral over ult which is probably why i am liking him now. (Also why i main widow lol)

I was going to say this.

She was already kind of borderline bad after the health nerf because her DPS (unless her opponent lets her get in and beam them down) is low and easy to heal through and avoid if you are paying attention. She had to land 2 full charge shots directly without the target being healed in-between to kill a 200-health target. Now its 3 shots. Yay.

Turrets do literally nothing now.

I don’t play alot of dps (minus sombra) so I cant’t share a strong opinion but there have been many genji’s in my games so far. We don’t play anything but dive here but so far it’s been a lot of doom\ball\genji/tracer bap and Zen.

thats fair i suppose, It just feels so bad to not have an ultimate, you end up retreating 80% of the time with blade, 15% of the time you die, and 5% of the time, you get one whole kill.

Im aware that his “ultimate” (more deserveing of the title “death wish”) is and can be used for baiting out actual ultimates, but that just feels so horrible.

thats also fair, I mean im always going to play him, hes my main after all, but I prefer when a hero is majority neutral, but has a playable ult. 60-40 is a good combo in my opinion. 60% neutral, and 40% blade would be great.

I think that this will always be a sleeping problem. Winrates/playrates dont always mean a hero is good. Ive seen genji every couple games, and they almost always swap once they realize they arent doing anything. However, I still believe that genji is one of if not the coolest hero, with one of if not the coolest stories and looks, thereby making him popular.

Ya i get ya. I would like to be able to cancel blade now that it is less effective as then you could use it as a dash reset only to menuever for your neutral game. Or use it to finish dash out cancel for continued pressure. So many more options if you could cancel blade now that it isnt just ghost dash entire enemy team to death lol. Even better if canceling returned some ult charge.

The genji defenders already at it, if he isn’t the #1 meta #1 absolute best character in the game by a mile, he’s garbage and the worst character in the game. Even if he is the absolute best, #1 meta character in the game, they would still find a way to try to say he’s actually the worst and weakest character in the game.

Well, for one, if you play Genji, why are you ulting full-health people? That’s not how you get the best value from the ult, never has been. The ult is also set up to combo with his dash so trying to downplay it by describing a trash Genji player using their ult into unfavorable conditions and only using swings is completely disingenuous.

Do you see Tracer players complaining pulse bomb doesn’t kill full hp tanks? Do you see Zenyatta players complaining their ult is useless when they use it while nobody else is ulting and their team has full-health? Do you see Winston players complaining that his ult is less effective against a full team of full-health people? Are Echo players complaining when they copy a squishy in the middle of an enemy team and instantly get their ult disabled?

Maybe this is a good time to learn how and when to use Genji’s ult.

This means nothing because of the way his primary and secondary firing methods are set up and how they are intended to play into the rest of his kit. That’s like trying to say Echo’s primary is trash and using the damage of a single pellet as support for that claim.

Every character is if you’re trash at playing them.

“Your team has to have overall better teamwork than the other team to beat the other team in the team game”

WELL GOLLY GEEEEEE, YOU DON’T SAY…

And here it is, the usual Genji popularity fallacy.
Genji is consistently popular throughout ranks because he isn’t that hard to get value out of and his kit is full of cheesy mechanics.

The heroes who are popular throughout the ranks AND are performing well throughout the ranks, are usually characters who aren’t hard to use and get value out of along with being cool. If they take too much “skill” they’re usually not that popular in lower ranks but may be very popular in high ranks like Sojourn.

Genji falls into the Mercy camp of “Not really hard to use, just a different playstyle. Not the strongest but decent enough so the average person feels like they have more skill than they actually do while using their cheesy mechanics to get the job done.”

the idea for a better genji imo is less reliant on nanoblade/mercy blade and more vanilla kit plays. like right now, the idea for genji is going in the right direction but is severely lacking.

which is why i suggest that doing something to keep genji from doing one shot comboes with ult comboes would be fine. however we would have to buff his vanilla kit to compensate such as giving 130 dmg blade and 30dmg shurikens. 130dmg blade allows him to do 2 slashes again to kill like before, but prevent dmg boost from being applied or he’ll one shot combo again and get him nerfed again. also raising the speed to 0.8s per swing to balance it out.

as for 30dmg shurikens, it makes his neutral better but still not on the same level as his usual 3hs → dash combo before this patch. it will essentially have the same breakpoints as 28 or 29 does. 27 is just too low now for the current health pools. for genji to have his usual 3hs dash combo again, he would need to have 34dmg shurikens today so 30dmg shurikens isn’t much of a balance issue at this point.

goes with all dps heroes that also need damage buffs since TTK is significantly higher now

Genji is the worst hero now.

Looks at Junkrat crying in the corner.

Hmm.

and the genji haters r here too i suppose…

never said this…
and if genji was the most powerful hero, I wouldnt be saying anything about it, if he was too broken, id even say he needs nerfs

because thats what an ultimate does? theres no point in ulting half health people in overwatch, your going to kill them anyway, thats a waste of an ult, UNLESS, its 3 or even 4 people that are low, then an ult can be used to clean up the fight.

the dash and the ult dont do much together im afraid. its only 160 damage together… and if you dash, then ult, the slash, then dash again, thats only 210 damage, which doesnt even kill anyone except tracer and widow. they just got rid of the dash combo potential with nanoblade too, as it doesnt even kill people with a dash slash combo.

news flash, i never said that tracers bomb was good, in fact its nearly as bad as genjis blade, the only difference is that IT INSTA kills anyone you land it on (excluding tanks and bastion).

I have nearly 500 hours on genji, I know how to use his ult, judging on what you just said, id say you probably dont know as much about genji as I do…

its not though, because she shoots 3 pellets at once, whereas genji shoots 3 shurikens in quick succession. in case you arent aware, genjis shurikens travel at such a pace that you can in fact dodge them if you are fast enough. once you get hit by one, you will know the other 2 are coming, and you will hopefully sidestep if your smart. echo shoots all 3 pellets at once, thereby giving no time to sidestep the other “2” pellets.

yeah no crap, thats overwatch, except you missed my point, its worse for genji, he has little to now carry potetnital. Now i do aplogize thats my bad for not clearing that up, I just thought it was obvious.

this is a fair take, I even party agree with it. Him being ez? no not at all, he has a high skill ceiling though, thereby making him good in higher ranks, and mid in lower ones. if you are insane at genji, you will likely win any 1v1, but thats the problem, you have to be insane, and even then they dont use his ult as an ult should be used, they use it to bait out real ults, which says alot.

I think you underestimate just how a heros “coolness” effects their pickrate. I chose genji to main, only because he looked cool. There was NOTHING else. I made genji my playstyle, because of how sick he was, i completely shifted my perfered playstyle, and now I prefer genjis playstyle.

now this is just completely wrong, genji is difficult to use, Id assume you have payed him judging by your pfp, but the more I read the more I think you havent, genji has a medium skill floor and a high skill ceiling, whereas mercy has a low skill floor and a medium skill ceiling, knowing how to use genji is incredibly difficult, and really teh only skilless part about him is that hes projectile, not hitscan.

at least junk does decent damage, and his ult still insta kills squishes if you get close enough…

Genji cant kill anyone without support, his damage is just pathetic.

Though all dps need dmg buffs, the ttk is way to long now.

This patch was made to address burst damage and healing.

Sorry but slightly increasing everyone’s ttk doesn’t some how cause Genji to immediately become the worst hero in the game when he was not even being close to the worst hero in the game previously.
