Genji is not worth learning anymore

I had hopes of learning Genji to the point where I would be super good with him and carry games… But then… Blizzard decides to add more counters…

I have decided to drop Genji completely and let him be the last character I consider “picking up”. I feel like with different meta shifts and more heroes considered as counter picks to him being added, he is becoming less and less viable and his huge skill ceiling makes it that much more not worth it to learn him.

If I could main Mercy since season 3, you can main Genji too

Even with all the new counters incoming that may be valid threats, great Genjis can still do well since his kit allows for it. Just have to be smarter and a little more careful.

Brigitte won’t play as a hard counter to Genji, she’s just a healer that won’t get wrecked by him.

There are too many genji mains anyways.

Different situation my guy.

All supports are always the first target priority other than Moira (which is why she should probably be nerfed).

If you’re suggesting that we’ll finally get a meta that Genji isn’t in, then by god I am all for it. He hasn’t missed a meta yet.

Not every hero needs to be meta at all times. Unless you’re a 1-trick Genji getting counters is fine, and if you’re a 1-trick you shouldn’t be.

Not saying he wont at all be good. It’s just that with Moira being such a high picked support right now and her also being a rough counter to Genji as well as the new hero being able to brush off Genji’s regardless if she kills him or not, it’s not worth picking up a charcter with a high skill ceiling that will end up having a hard time taking out his priority targets which is healers.

Last character to pick up even after Symm? I’m not hating on Symm or anything, but Genji definitely still fits in more lineups despite his counters.

Nay mate, when I first picked up Mercy she was an F tier hero completely overshadowed by Ana, and I fell in love with her so much that no rework and no hate made me wanna drop her. I have plenty of hours on D.Va and sometimes I do Moira instead, but in the end Mercy will always be my favourite hero to play! Besides, it’s not like Genji is gonna become some kind of niche pick or something, he’s a DPS hero with awesome mobility

Good mobility doesnt make the character good in the end. Not saying Genji is bad but dealing with heroes that prevent him from doing his job whether he gets killed or not is an issue

Yes, that’s why even I don’t stick to Mercy if Moira or Ana would be a better option. You can in fact still main a hero and not play them too religiously! I warmly encourage you to not give up on Genji if you really like him. And if you do, I guess you don’t like him as much in the end? Either way I think you’ll be well.

Why Genji should have the right to prevent other heroes’ job and other heroes should not have the right to prevent him from doing his job ? What even ?

People think it’s a good idea to dive Moira because they’ve dived healers before her, and it’s worked. Just doesn’t work 1v1ing Moira. Adapting strategies to do well is basically an unwritten tenet of the game.

Genji’s role isn’t just kill the backline, it’s also kill or harass isolated targets that aren’t near a tank. He’s fine, just adapt your style of playing Genji to the new heroes.

Im not saying they dont have the right to prevent him from being effective. I never said that.

I said with more and more heroes being able to counter him, he is not a hero I desire to play due to those heroes being around quite a bit in the current meta. That’s why people don’t play Sym nearly at all in high levels and it’s because her turrets get way too easily countered by characters with large pickrates like Pharah and Winston and her ultimate(s) get way too easily countered by high mobility flankers like Tracer (another character with a huge pickrate) and is therefore why I don’t play Sym either.

Less Genjis is not a bad thing imo. It’s healthy for the game.

All heroes are worth learning as it makes it alot easier to play against them if you know theyre moves/cooldowns and general playstyle.

not worth playing reaper

If you are going to let counters and meta changes hold you back then you shouldn’t even bother with Genji.

There should be no reason for you to hold yourself back from learning and getting good with any character. If you are real good with a character then meta and counters mean nothing to you.
