Ok my last post on genji was about how I suck at him but I got him down enough to realize he’s just kinda a mid character at the moment, his ultimate feels like something that could be in a base kit right now and be balanced, his abilities are ok and his dps output is mid play tracer instead. I hope they update him a bit cause it feels like for how demanding of a character he is to get even a little out of he’s not being rewarded for it.
Doubt they’ll do any of this but cool ideas would be to add bleed damage to his melee, give him infinite deflect while in his ult you could call it op but it’s a few seconds when he has no range and if he fails to get 1 kill he’s immobile I think it could work.Could just increase his melee damage since he needs to land it go get a lot of kills idk huge range of things they could do to make him better if they didn’t wanna go the route of just buffing numbers.
I mean they’ll probably just increase numbers or leave him as is cause people who specialize in him can make it work even if it’s not convenient.
I really dont think thats accurate at all. The assessment of calling Genji mid is pretty much right on point for GM, which has been his problem for the last 4 years outside of that one time he got hyper buffed and hyper nerfed in the span of a couple weeks.
His left click is garbage, his right click is close range, and bare blade is only 1 or 2 tiers above noon in terms of usefulness.
I would genuinely argue he’s slightly underpowered but still completely viable. To put him right under Tracer and Sold/journ is insane. Nanoblade is terrible, bare blade is terrible, beat blade is moderately usable but an awful use of beat. Whats really the value in a character without an ultimate but none of the consistency of McCree?
For the amount of risk that it requires, it doesn’t quite return the value of simpler ultimates like Pulse Bomb or Death Blossom could when coordinated and combo’ed, but it does its job. It’s fine at the moment.
He’s on the same level. He’s not nearly as difficult as Sojourn and so performs just as well in all ranks better than Sojourn would. Likewise, Tracer is simpler than him, and still performs just as well as he does in all ranks… maybe slightly worse.
LMB is meant for one-shot kill combos. RMB is meant for close-ranged engagements or hitting multiple targets. Dragonblade is fine, if a bit too risk for what it does. It’s still performing better than Overclock.
Until recently, he was more consistent than Cassidy. And Cassidy’s consistency really depends more on mechanical aim and killing targets faster than Genji does.
It’s fine for the moment, but reverting to late beta Genji’s shuriken damage of 28, would still allow for Swiftstrike + Melee kill combos after a single strike to the head for 258 damage.
29 would probably be too excessive.
No this is false. Dragonblade existed before Nanoboost, was tuned down before Nanoboost, and recently received a buff with season 9.
I disagree 29 is needed with the higher health if we were back in 200 i would agree 28 but at 250 being the avrage
And most of his value was in blade and blade was nerfed after nano was added nano has held genji blade in a limbo for a long time he literally lost blade damage to gain base damage then lost that too genji is mid hes not terrible but hes not good hes very mid like mid to low b tier and could use a boost to his main play style a combo hero
Youre straight up out of your mind, and this just fact since you said Dragon Blade is performing better than Overclock of all things. Overclock is literally one of the best DPS ultimates in the game right now, if not THE best. Calling this dog water ulti better than overclock tells me you legit dont know what youre talking about, holy god its not even close.
and LMB is not for one shot combos, what? It can be used to set up bursts, but its legit just a poke tool first and foremost, and really not a great one. Its as OP said, mid.
What on earth are you on if the first thing you think about Genji M1 is the one shot combo, and think blade is better than the singular best DPS ult in the game?
He’s, objectively, quite decent. Solidly low A tier or high B tier.
There are definitely better dps like Tracer, S76, Soujourn, etc, but there are also much worse dps like Junkrat, Reaper, Sombra, etc.
The only “problem” is that Genji is a difficult hero which isn’t as strong as other difficult heroes like Tracer and Soujorn. In other words, his skill-reward ratio is lower than other heroes, but his “overall strength” can be good when mastered.
That means he isn’t “worth learning” at all, but if you already know how to play him, then he has a high enough skill cap that he’s actually reasonably strong.
Genji is the easiest of the flankers to a point. He kind of peaks around mid-tier imo. He excels in being naturally tricky to play against because it takes more effort to aim at him than it does to aim as him.
You have full command over when to dash, jump, and deflect. All of which another player has to predict while Genji does not. You do not require much proficiency to use these tools mechanically.
Alt fire + swift strike give him an easy finisher combo that all you really have to do is poke at people from an off angle within dash distance until you see someone get down to say half health, then go in. You can either poke with your primary fire or alt fire spam at dash distance. Alt fire → dash → alt fire melee even at only 1 shuriken hit each is around 140+ dmg which is very forgiving to use.
Solo’ulting a player who is isolated is equally insanely easy value when you have dash pull dash swing swing for large distance and hard to miss damage. Most Genji’s do use it for stupid things like large players instead of easy solo kills. Securing a kill on a key individual such as a support or DPS who is out of position by removing counterplay or forcing more resources out against you is still good value.
At higher tiers of player people are better at hitting genji because they counterpick better, use stronger tools, know to wait for certain things, etc. From there that is when his difficult picks up. He only has low DPS output and projectile which requires higher skill aim than hitscan of options like Sombra or Tracer. He’s kind of out done in the burst dmg department by Echo who doesnt’ require low value.
He’s very annoying to play against with this mix-ups.
Another thing you guys aren’t talking about is that… genji is popular as hell.
Doom, Genji, Mercy are the trifecta of “we don’t need to buff these characters because their mains will end up playing them anyways…”
Its perfectly fine for these characters to be mid because they’re so fun its honestly part of the challenge us genji mains wouldn’t want genji to be overpowered as that usually means 2 weeks later he’ll get dumpstered and forgotten like he always does.
Genji has insta-kill potential with the upgraded projectile size. One right click to the head and they are instantly dead. Just learn the tech (don’t know the name) where you dash at their feet and flick up.
Genji has the best mobility out of all the DPS. He can wipe a whole team out with one use of Dragon blade, especially with the swing speed buff.
