Genji has way too many counters

Ashe, Baptiste, Brigitte, Doomfist, Echo, McCree, Mei, Moira, Sigma, Sombra, Symmetra, Torbjörn, Winston and Zarya are half of the heroes in Overwatch and they are all Genji counters. How the humble frick is a Genji supposed to say “gg” and mean it after a game these days? Blizzard seriously needs to increase his survivability, perhaps by nerfing some of these heroes or making them unable to kill through his reflect. It takes less than two games of a Necros stream to realize this and can not for the sake of me understand why Blizzard has not done anything to fix this yet. Wake up Blizzard! You are losing customers!

He’s fine as he is, his kit just needs to shift towards the base kit rather than his ult.

After that give some attention to other heroes, the game doesn’t revolve around Genji after all.

(Also every hero has ALOT of counters, these aren’t always hard-counters. These heroes aren’t always OP against this hero nor do they literally ruin the hero in every scenario. So you’re also exaggerating with how bad he is with just pulling up some counters.)

Yes, I was exaggerating however you can not truthfully claim that Genji is fine right now. I did not exaggerate when I said it only takes two games of a Necros stream to figure that out.

He’s not perfect, though he’s not trash.

Sorry that a pro player can’t play him in high rankings anymore like he used to do, he’s more of a hero that can do “fine” in average rankings.

Other heroes aren’t fine either, so how about we look at them.

sure, tell me about them. what is wrong with the other heroes?

Well if i see Necros play Bastion it’s clear to see it’s a bad hero after 2 matches.

you make a good point, however genji has been strong which have given everyone the sweet taste of how genji should be. that being said I do not thing bastion should be weak but his weakness is part of his strength which makes it hard to balance. genji on the other hand could get a reflect buff so that it protects against the fire of more heroes.

Honestly at least half of the heroes you mentioned are “skill matchups” not “counters”

Genji is already strong for the skilled players. He doesn’t need any buffs. Certainly doesn’t need any nerfs either. He’s in a great place for ladder.

He already reflects every projectile in the game shy of DVa bomb… What more reflect buff could you possibly ask for that isn’t just down right stupid?

have you seen necros play? or just his noobhunter clips

I don’t have time to watch streamers.

Edit: even if I did I wouldn’t.

first of all, to me it makes no sense that sigma buff cant be reflected and now a days whenever there’s a torb on the enemy team its fricking impossible to do sheit (almost)

Uh… What?

Sounds like someone needs a lesson in playing well with others.

Honestly I’m not much of a Genji player (I can play him but not in Diamond), I prefer tracer in dive comp. Genji can do poke damage from range where as tracer cannot.

Unless your other DPS is a ranged hitscan, it’s up to Genji to kill turret for the tanks and supports…

Edit: Tracer and sombra are too fragile.

No. She has an AoE explosion, but that does not counter Genji

Bap’s IF counters literally all damage

Brig’s armor hurts consistent damage more than burst damage.

Eh, kinda just situational which is better.

Because she has a beam on an ability?

Because he has a stun? (which “counters” literally everybody)

Yeah

By design, but there’s plenty of room for Gengu to not just let a Moira get free value off of him.

Tanks are kinda supposed to counter damage. That’s the point of a tank.

Hack/emp ‘counters’ all heroes

Yeah

A little bit, yeah

Yeah

Yeah

Counting every hero that has even one instance or scenario where they beat Genji does not mean they counter him.

It doesn’t always need to be the same, if it always stays like this we’ll get more people saying it’s boring that we use the same heroes constantly.

Genji is a great character. Period.

Mei isn’t a counter anymore since her freeze takes longer to pull off than a genji’s dps. Ashe is decent at range against him like she should be but will be melted close range, Bap? what are you on about? Moira has bad self healing now, actually aim and you’ll find you can melt her quickly. Why don’t you bait out her abilities like every other hero in the roster has to. Sigma? how about you use Genji’s mobility to dodge his slow moving, slow ROF projectiles.

Sombra, Brigg, Mccree, Torb, Doom, Winston and Zarya and his counters. That’s 4 dps, 2 tanks and a support. 7 heroes out of a 32 player roster. Of which Sombra is basically a throw pick in 90% of ranks or unless you are Fitzy, Cree you just bait his flash and you win, Brigg you can just stay out a 2m radius of her and you’ll be fine and Doom just press shift and you’ll be fine. The others you should swap if you’re being hard countered like everyone else in the game has to.

I beg to differ. Mei’s freeze is much much easier to land/pull off than Gengu’s damage. In a natural 1v1 scenario I would maybe give favor to a smart Genji that keeps his distance, but in actual team fights Mei should have the upper hand more often than not due to awkward map geometry, other teammates altering the flow of the battlefield, & raw healing.

Everything else you said adds up pretty well, though I don’t think they listed Sig for his primary fire but for his Accretion that goes through Deflect.

Old Mei yes. New Mei no. Even with frame perfect freeze, Genji still out damages her. With her nerfs, any break in the freeze massively increases the time to freeze which happens all the time on a backflipping, dashing Genji further improving his chances. Genji can cancel deflect which was a great way to catch a Genji out and also does more damage more consistently than he did when Mei’s freeze was good.

There are other heroes too with too many counters, not just Genji.
