Regardless of whether people think he deserves a nerf or not currently.
Genji being neutral at the very least but perferably good shows that the games in a good spot balance wise as he takes alot of skill and and his risk to reward is pretty fair
The blaring problem with genji is the fact his ult interacts with dmg boosts such as Ana nano which shouldn’t be a thing as it makes a team wipe a probability not a possibility which isn’t fair for the game. Of course it isn’t as oppressive as nano sojourn in any way shape or form but
Overall when genji is in a good spot I feel like this game will have a bright future ahead of us
Same could be said for hero’s like Reinhardt to a certain degree which are fan favourites and although may be easier to play by his very design he is very fair and has a nice risk to reward with enough skill depth to show the player’s individual skill
Dead wrong. A character being broken is not good design and it never will be. Either his movement needs to be toned down or changes need to be made to compensate for the complete lack of CC. You know, the thing that was supposed to counter him. Yet in their infinite wisdom they got rid of it. Every time I see threads like this I just translate it to " Genji is my favorite so he must stay broken otherwise I can’t have fun stomping people for little effort ".
The thing about Genji is that, at high level play everyone is skilled, meaning a Genji will actually require skill because the people he targets will have good aim to deal with him. At lower level MMR, player that is more skilled or even decent can have a much easier time giving Genji an OP feel, because they can’t aim as well.
In general I think people think he takes more skill than he actually does, and even if that were true, something being difficult doesn’t justify it being too strong, in a game that requires balance that logic is difficult to apply.
The problem with genji has never been his neutral fight, CCS definitely made his life alot harder but the problem with that argument is that the character itself has soo much depth that if you sink enough hours into the character you can still have a few pop off moments, you’ll just get cheese killed quite a bit which is enough for some people as he is a beloved character and is one of the most unique and popular characters not just in overwatch but in all fps’s
Overwatch 2 is struggling with its identity rn as it wants the game to be skillful but obviously alot of players want to have a crutch and don’t really want to put in the work to improve as players
Of course balance can come into play but we need to dissect genjis kit to see what the issue is and other than nano blade there really isn’t anything oppressive about his kit
How about no. You’re asking everyone else to play around one persons pick. That’s ok if they’re better than the entire lobby and it isn’t due to a hero pick.
Genji’s “neutral fight” includes 3 passives. wall climb, dash reset, and double jump along with a small hitbox and annoying animations. He’s good at neutral because he relies on being persistent and his entire kit enables persistence without much cooldown.
In ow2 genji gets indirect buffs to persistence and his nuetral which includes reduced stuns, 1 tank, and a speed passive.
So what’s oppressive about genji? You listed things from his kit but could u be more specific in an actual game what’s the interactions or dmg that you preceive to be unfair. And could you also describe what characters you were playing and also rank for me to better understand as I’ve never been in the metal ranks so it’s hard for me to relate.
I know that a lot of metal tanks also complain when rein was also decent aswell so I’m curious just for people not to list of the characters kit which I deeply understand but actually think of the issues a bit more deeper that reading a characters wiki out to me
He oppressive because he can slither inside and on top of peoples hitboxes to kill them without much punishment, especially at close range.
Which is only possible because he gets these passives to enable persistence and in overwatch, sustain is king.
I’m not just reading out a wiki btw. I’m telling you this because you neglected to mention his passives. I know, it’s obvious. It should be obvious because he’s getting another passive. Passives that enable high sustain and a kit that gives him a lot of mobility.
Basically the playstyle boils down to persist, persist, escape if needed, m2, m2, m2, dash to get inside someone hitbox, dash out, continue persisting. Cherry on top is getting blade.
It’s that he’s overtuned. No hero being overtuned is good for the game. Ideally having multiple options for DPS because they’re viable is ideal, and Genji being in the mix is also good. But not by this margin. Him, Sombra, and Sojourn just lead the DPS viability too much because they’re overtuned, and that might be because of the DPS passive.
To be honest his dmg is fine, if you remove any of his passives you remove the identity of the character and they’ve already gutted his passives before so I don’t understand why low ranked players complain about his mobility when u have all sorts of characters having the ability to wip themselves across the map and any given point
His shurikens travel very slowly, dash has a travel time, it does relatively weak dmg, all his passives are limited to his movement speed which isn’t much unlike characters like sojourn , pharah and echo which get movement speed buffs
They’re are definitely downsides to his kit and I’d argue he is one of the most easily counterable characters in the game regardless of whether there is CC or not
I’d agree if he where to get a nerf it’d be so he can’t receive any dmg boosts during blade
And if people still think he’s too hard to counter nerf deflect CD to 10/11 seconds
It’s good for the game for everyone to be viable of course. But of all characters, divers are the ones that need to be balanced the most carefully. They have the most potential to make the game unfun for others, especially supports as we’ve seen in many threads. If they have to make a choice I’d rather Genji be underpowered than overpowered.
His shurikens are really good at close range.
Which is why he’s probably getting the nerf he’s getting. Like I said, not everyone should be playing around one hero pick because it’s picked. Not everyone wants to adjust their sensitivity just because genji gets value by getting inside someones hitbox. Again, the ability to crawl inside someones hitbox isn’t about skill if you understand that you just shouldn’t risk dying too much. Especially when close range defense has been nerfed into the ground for everyone except Tanks.
Yeah, you can counter him but what’s the cost to that? Playing counters that aren’t as strong for anything else.
Im so torn on this… I dont know what to do about high skill ceiling characters that when played like a cyborg is at the controls, is amazing.
At the same time I love that such a character exists. For me its Ana, I think she’s amazing, I’d love to play her, im just not that good. But I love that she exists.
I’m not going to “enlighten you” on anything. You know the answer if you’re such a high rank. Why would you need me to tell you what can counter genji?
