Genji alternate "No" line

Genji’s japanese variation of the “No” line honestly just sounds like “Yeah”
I mean no disrespect to the language, but I can see how this could become confusing, especially to people who don’t play Genji/are in the middle of a fight.

well the “no” voiceline is pretty much only for healers to troll genji, so he doesnt need it anyway

Being like that really isn’t necessary. I’m just trying to avoid confusion in the long run for everyone.

Yeah you won’t ear the following interaction anytime soon:
Ana: Nano Boost is ready get in there
Genji: No

like what??

I actually would use it… my blades are so bad that you would be better off nanoing Mercy or something.

Japanese ‘no’ is ‘Ie’
Is it because he says it too fast to sound like ‘yeah’?

Here’s an alternative then:

Ana: Nano Boost is ready get in there
Genji: Goodbye

I guess? I don’t really know any Japanese, but for a non Japanese speaker it sounds identical to “Yeah”
I’d recommend listening to it in-game yourself, if possible.

It’s your own problem if an in game voice line “confuses” u that much. “Ie” just means no in Japanese and that’s it…?

I’m assuming most of the english only speakers playing this game don’t even know what half of the heroes’ non english voice lines mean anyway

I’ve just listened to it and it really sounds like ‘yeah’.

Also,「いいえ」is quite disrespectful in Japanese culture (if my memory serves correct), so I think they should change it anyway.

It doesn’t confuse me but I can see how it could easily confuse others. The difference between this line and others is that it sounds like exactly the opposite of what you’re trying to communicate.

Normally Japanese people add something at the end to soften it making it less disrespecting.

I’ve not been taking my lessons much during quarantine, thanks for telling me.

well it isnt really a problem. for example i use the voicelineand when i use it, in chat there will be this text in blue: genji(NFIvo):No

The pleasure is mine!

The idea of the communication wheel (at least in my experience) is to serve as a quick way to notify your teammates of something without using voice chat. If you are reading text chat to understand a communication wheel line, then it defeats the purpose of the line.

In situations when you are using a quick line like “No”, it’s just undesirable to have a 50% chance for the line to sound to the uninformed like the polar opposite of what you actually mean. It obviously shouldn’t be at the top of the priority list, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with improving lines to be more clear.

In the long run in sure everyone will figure it out and do just fine.

I honestly can’t imagine someone saying something and hearing genji go “Yeah!”,

“Well he said yeah so he’s good, let’s do this!”

“Genji what’s you doing?! You said yeah ;-;!”

There’s not much to say other than I disagree. It’s not a huge issue but it’s very easy to hear as “Yeah” if you listen to it yourself. Other than new players, anyone who doesn’t experience the line often could misunderstand. I can’t see any reason not to make it easier to understand for all. Obviously it may not be realistic currently due to current world events, but it’d definitely be a positive change for the future imo.
