Garbage netcode

How long has this game been out and nothing has been done to fix the netcode. It favors people with higher pings over lower ones and doesn’t respond to buttons when pressed. Games from 15+ years ago had better netcode then this trash.

Seems good to me, honestly.

I’m not sure what netcode is, but if it has anything to do with responsivity, I’d say D3 is in bad shape but OW responds to each and every click I make.

Overwatch isn’t nearly as bad as other games, where I’ve nerd-raged in mind-numbing frustration over the latency (e.g. For Honor, even though I loved it the peer-to-peer networking latency just killed the game for me).

That said… I feel it too, it really seems like lag compensation favors the player with the higher latency. I play a lot of DM and I can tell when I have a great connection with players who have good internet, and when I don’t.

When other players have high ping (I’m talking 150+ ping sometimes) it feels like everyone is suddenly moving slightly faster, I can’t track properly and my shots have a latency on them so it feels like there’s a delay between when I click and it registers. There have been times where I knew a shot shouldn’t have landed because it was into an empty space where the enemy wasn’t standing, but it registered anyways, and times where I knew a shot should have landed but didn’t.

The issue seems to change throughout the day, too, sometimes there’s no issue at all and I’m landing all my shots fine and then other times it’s like my shots just aren’t registering at all. My connection is stable and the ping is the same average as ever, the only difference is when I happen to be playing.

Not sure if it’s a server side problem, or a matchmaking problem, or it’s my distance from the Blizzard servers, or a network connection issue, or if it’s something fundamental about the way the game performs lag compensation (which I think is probably it), but it’s absolutely noticeable and frustrating.

Probably the best performance of any multiplayer game I’ve played (Minus the trash OCE servers).

It’s not that bad, but I honestly feel like the net code has gotten worse over time. Play quake champions. That’s some real bad net code.

How about Arabs who suffers from high latency and yet they’re dominating the top 500 ladder on console PS4 to be exact. Anyways they’re having their servers very soon

I disagree.

I play on NA from EU and I’ve never had a problem.

Unless you’re playing on like 150+ ping, then I guess it’s noticeable at that point.

Any ping higher than 130+ is bad me personally from the UK I have solid 116 ping in the NA servers works like a charm

I also play NA server from UK.

I used to think that when I died to something after starting fade that it was ping issues, but then I would look at replays etc and see it wasn’t the case at all and that it’s the transition period, Reaper has the same problem and Sombra and I’ve seen complaints from many who play with like 26 ping on EU server.

Same. The rollback netcode in some fighting games is technically better. But, I think for what Overwatch is, this is more or less the relative best I have experienced.

You have the edge over them in a duel as your data packets saying that you damaged them will reach the server and get acknowledged first. Once they’re marked as dead, their damage to you gets ignored.

One of the old FPSes i played that didn’t do that (it also does client side hit detection but doesn’t ignore damage from dead players) had constant double K.O.s, which doesn’t happen here.

Feel free to try playing at 150+ ping (you can buy a vpn or play on asia server, idk) against any random tracer and enjoy literally every second shot not registering at all.

The netcode is inexcusably bad, I agree. The fact that I can undergo entire motions or animations before dying client side, and then on server side playback I never even started it, is nonsense.

The time gap is large enough to go through the whole sleep dart wind up, firing it, dart travels the whole distance to my target, and hits an enemy before I died, only to find out that I never even began the animation server side. All with low ping.

It’s frustrating and indefensible for a company of Blizzard-Activision’s size in 2020.

You have no idea what bad net code looks like if you think OW has bad net code.
