Gaming Laptop - PC players help!

I want a gaming laptop that will run OW reasonably well. I am leaning towards the below from BestBuy (locked in there - have a lot of rewards money to burn!) and wondered what your thoughts were. I am a console guy, so be kind lol.

That is much better than my laptop, and I can run OW fine.

You should be good with that purchase.

I should say when everyone is spamming ultimate, I can lose frames and the game becomes a bit unplayable.

Just remember that a mobile GPU is not as good as a desktop GPU with the same number. You can subtract 1 or 2 model numbers from it

mobile 3080 → desktop 3060 or 3070
mobile 3050ti → not close to desktop 3050ti

The spec you show will play OW1 fine. OW2 might need some more for ultra graphics but will likely run more than fine in high graphics on that laptop. But other games with higher graphics needs may not run very well on it (if you want higher frame rates at least). My daughter as a mobile 3080ti and it performs about as well as my 2080ti desktop GPU.

If you can spare a little more money I would upgrade the GPU as far as you can afford.

Also 8GB RAM memory is the absolute minimum and 16GB would be a safer bet nowadays. Memory is not normally that expensive to go from 8GB → 16GB unless it is an Apple product.

  • cheap

Cons

  • too little RAM
  • lowest 30 series graphics
  • does not state Hz of screen so probably 60Hz which is VERY BAD
  • $250 off is BS as the better model is almost same price as what they claim is full price
  • 512GB SSD - this can get a bit cramped as games are 60GB+ often these days

Pros

  • 144Hz
  • 16GB
  • 3060 (not sure this is much better than 3050ti though)
  • 1TB SSD (instead of 512GB)

I would look around to find it cheaper and get them to price match to bring the price down.

If you only play OW and nothing else and don’t care about the future games then the cheaper one would be fine.

Try to find something with a similar price but with 16GB ram and also make sure it has a screen that is above 120hz. Difference between 60hz and 120hz is huge
