Gameplay switching shouldn't be allowed

How would you all feel if in a quick play role queue match once you have selected your hero and the game has started you can no longer change the hero. I am getting tired of dominating a team just for them to switch to turret heros or heros that require little to no skill to win I feel if you choose that hero you should be stuck with that hero regardless of if your team is winning or loosening. The last min switches are getting old…

I feel like a lot went on here outside of the other team just switching it up:

  • Your team didn’t kill turrets
  • People were suddenly faced with characters they don’t know how to play against
  • The enemy team swapped to characters they were more comfortable with
  • People on your team refused to swap off when hard countered

For example: One team has a pharah player destroying the enemy team.

If the enemy team swaps to Torb/hitscan and suddenly Pharah’s team is being spawn-camped; there is more going on than just counterpicking. It also could mean:

  • Pharah is refusing to switch
  • no one is killing the turret
  • the rest of the team aren’t pulling their weight

It means the other team got outplayed.

Is it annoying when it happens in the final moments of a game you’re otherwise steamrolling? Yes, of course it is. But that doesn’t mean we need to get rid of one of the games main mechanics.

Switching is integral to the game. What if the hero you pick is hard countered by their comp? Don’t you want to be able to swap so that it isn’t GG from the start?

No. The game’s core design is around countering/swapping to deal with problematic elements on the opposing teams.

Those same heroes you’re tired of seeing people swap to, have counters, can be countered quite easily, and you need to learn to use the tools at your disposal, to do just that.

No that’d be terrible. Hero swapping is a part of the foundation of the game, how would you feel if you were stuck on heroes that are hard countered by the enemies? Hope you enjoy running Hog into Ana with no Kiriko for the entire game. Or perhaps running against a Junkerqueen with no Kiriko to mitigate her ult. That’ll go well won’t it?

It’s not viable in a game like OW. Victories and defeats would be decided by a roll of the dice before the game even started. And it would reinforce “meta” comps, and some heroes would not be played much at all.
It works in FPS games like CS, because it doesn’t really matter what character you play. It wouldn’t work in OW, a game completely based on countering.

If you did this you’d have to introduce hero bans, and that is gonna limit what people can play even more.

so take away counter play? a foundation of OW? no thanks.

If we can’t switch, wins/losses will be determined by luck. Hope you’re lucky enough to choose a hero that isn’t countered by the enemy team.

Overwatch is about switching and countering.
What a boring suggestion, OP…

Switching heroes is a core mechanic of ow for a reason. And you have described that reason. If you want to actually dominate, you should be as flexible as your enemies or get dunked on. Yes, value to effort balance of this game is struggling, but you are asking for non-realistic solutions, when more realistic ones already exist.

No don’t do that… Imagine selecting Lifeweaver to troll your teammates and dont switch fast enough and stay stuck with him for an entire match!! NOO!! :stuck_out_tongue:

We are not removing hero switching, it’s the last thing OW has that would keep it unique in some form. We’ve already removed far too much as is, it’s time to stop demanding the removal of everything. Really and truthfully they need to undo a lot of their decisions.

Play Paladins then .

Okay but imagine your team went reaper-junk and the enemy went pharmacy, you’re just screwed. You’ll be mad at your own changes in like three games if this ever actually happened.

Allowing player changes hero during the match is why this game became dead.

Get out.

Tricky … you got me with this monumental resurrection.

Would instantly uninstall and never look back.
