Game suddenly crashing

For about 1-2 months now my game randomly crashes. Game mode or time played don’t seem to matter, there’s no clear pattern.
At the same time I had BSOD’s happening from time to time. Not always while playing OW, but sometimes. The problem seemed to be ntoskrnl.exe.
I reinstalled Windows 10 recently and have to see if these still happen. But the crashing of OW is sadly still there.

What I tried so far:

Repairing feature in the launcher
Reinstalling the game
Disabling Discord overlay
Driver updates
Previous drivers
Different gpu
RAM test with MemTest86 (multiple times)
Reinstalling Windows 10

Appreciate every help.

Howdy Tensa,

It looks like Discord is still hooking into the game. Let’s try closing all other programs temporarily so we can test Overwatch by itself.

If this persists, let’s get a DxDiag:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type DxDiag and press Enter.
  3. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  4. Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save
  5. Paste the DXdiag into the post, select and highlight everything you just pasted, and hit the “preformated text” button (</>). That’ll make the information much more readable.
It should look like this.

If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).

Over the last few days I played Overwatch with no other programs open and had no crashes. Just now I played with Google Chrome and Windows Command Processor open. It crashed in the first game after a minute or so.

It pretty much locked me in the game too. I could alt tab to my second monitor, but I couldn’t access any windows on the monitor Overwatch was frozen on and couldn’t close the game no matter what I tried. I had to restart my pc.

After that I launched the game again, only with the Command Processor open. It worked, but sprays didn’t show and it took about 2 seconds to show the game after respawning. The repair function couldn’t find an error in the files.

Is my best bet to just test Overwatch with different programs open?

The main resource for web browsers is going to be system memory. If the crashing starts or gets worse when opening web browsers then the root issue is going to be related to one of the following:

  • Display Drivers
  • Operating System
  • Hardware

I normally recommend using DDU to uninstall the current drivers then installing a fresh copy from the GPU website (AMD/Nvidia). I also recommend running a repair on Windows just in case!

Beyond that it may be best to speak with a local PC technician. They can help test the individual hardware using advanced equipment/programs that may pick up problems that things like memtest may not.

I do sincerely hope the info helps. Cheers!

I always use DDU when dealing with drivers, so i don’t think that’s the issue. I just used the Windows repair function you linked and, although I used it several times with no repair needed, it apparently found and repaired something. Which is a bit strange to me since I freshly installed Windows 10 a couple of days ago.

I’ll see if it fixed the crashes and if not I know a local shop to which I can bring my system to.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
