I just got a new Bluetooth headset with a mic. When I start OW, I hear the music just fine, until a match begins, and then the music/game sounds mute, and then the only thing I can hear is other players talking, and they can also hear me. When I press P and turn off chat, the music and sounds magically come back, but nobody can hear me talking.
This was posted originally by someone else, back in 2016, and Blizzard responded and said they were working on a patch to fix it. That’s 2 years.
I too am having an issue with a bluetooth headset and mic. My sound will work but when I enter a chat or group or game I loss sound. If I select comm decvie in settings I can hear and talk to people but I have no sound or sound effects. Just voices
I’ve been having this issue with my new desktop, but it was never an issue with my old laptop in Overwatch (it was an issue with discord chat though). I still haven’t solved the issue and I’ve played around with as many windows settings as I can find. It only seems to have my mic available in headset mode which has this muting issue.
I managed to get teamchat sound and game sound by going to Settings>Sound>Manage Sound Devices (in grey under both input and output sections) and disabling my headset-mode input on my headphones. This way you can use the device as if it had no mic.
TBF it’s absolutely bull that bluetooth can’t handle the demands of game sound… it should stream input and output at the same bitrate at all times. The quality might suffer unnoticeably but the functionality should not be affected at all.
The article they site is Extremely unhelpful and I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t think it was disrespectful to link “how to connect bluetooth” for this serious issue.
Well, Blizzard didn’t design the Bluetooth standards so they have no control over what it can transfer. It’s also mentioned that this doesn’t apply to headsets with a proprietary dongle, just ones using generic Bluetooth adapters.
If it was working with their game client on your old computer, and all that changed is the computer, it seems the issue is with the configuration of the new computer.
All that aside, this necrobumped post is almost a year old, so if you do need to troubleshoot, you should start a new thread or open a ticket.
