When i was playing my ping was through the roof and when I checked I had been put in an Asian server. I’m meant to be in a Europe server.
Ohhh so this is what is happening to me How do I tell which server am I on? and is there a way to stay on NA servers only?
Ctrl+Shift+N in match will bring up the network stats. From there, you can tell in the top left corner from three letters and usually a number. For example ams1 is Amsterdam, one of the main European servers. You can google a list of current OW servers, but the three letters are the nearest airport code so you could look up by that instead. Like ord1 is for Chicago.
As far as changing/setting your server/region, you’ll have either play with someone from that region and get randomly assigned to their or your server, or use a VPN. OW doesn’t allow you to change your default region, despite there being an option in Battlenet for it. It doesn’t work.
The game will automatically try to find the best server for you. Sometimes it can’t find an EMEA server that works. So it’ll throw you onto the next best depending on where you are.
Also depending on who’s in your party it’ll determine your server status. If you queue with NA people and they’re 3 and you’re 1 EMEA it’ll pick NA. Or if you’re DPS it’ll prio your server if its 1-1 for example.
I’ve always wondered why when I play with my European friend, it usually defaults to EU servers. Now that I think about it, we both usually queue for both DPS+Support and he usually gets DPS. I don’t mind the small increase in ping because it’s barely noticeable but it’s good to know there are reasons other than better ping and RNG.
For me it worked after I closed the game and verified the game files
