Game not Registering Shots

I’m a Cassidy main and have been playing him for quite some time. I used to consistently land my shots, and while occasional aim inconsistencies happen, they’ve never been a major issue. However, starting last week, I began experiencing a strange delay problem specifically with Cassidy.

Here’s what’s happening: my crosshair would be directly on an enemy, I’d shoot, and nothing would happen. Even more frustrating, I often hear the hit sound effect as if the shot landed, yet there’s no damage or impact. This issue never occurred before, and it’s making Cassidy feel unreliable.

It almost feels like Cassidy isn’t hitscan anymore, but I’m not sure if that’s due to a change Blizzard made, my game’s performance, or something with my system. I can confirm it’s not related to ping—I monitor my connection regularly, and my ping is stable.

There’s clearly something off with how the hero is registering shots, at least for me. Sometimes, I’ll randomly land a hit when not aiming at anything, but when my crosshair is directly on a hero, the shot doesn’t register. That never happened before and there’s certainly some weird delay. It feels like I now have to aim where the enemy is moving, predicting their direction and shooting ahead of them, but it was never like this until recently.

Has anyone had this issue before? If yes, please tell me you have a solution.

Edit:
Here’s a clip of it happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxB3YkxcQqY&feature=youtu.be

Are any of the network alert icons popping up in the top left corner?

No never. I am very sure it has nothing to do with my ping. I checked so many times.

Well, ping and packet loss are different things.

Okay after several days of close observation, I am now confident that this issue has nothing to do with packet loss or ping. I’m beginning to wonder if something in my system might be causing this problem, as I’ve noticed some issues with a few of my PC components—specifically my SSD, which has Overwatch installed, and my processor. Could this be the reason?

Either can be the reason. Which CPU is it?

Intel i9-9900K 3.60GHz

Can you elaborate on the “some issues” you’re seeing?

Sorry for the late response. Both my SSD and CPU frequently spike to 100% usage, which causes strange issues in my game. It’s possible that my SSD is degrading, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the root cause of the main issue because when both my SSD and CPU are running properly I still run into the whole game not registering my shots situation. I have no clue anymore.

Okay, so you’re either overheating or both pieces of hardware need evaluation by a PC technician.

There’s always 2 sounds. One faint hit, and then a confirmation, often a louder one.

I suspect there’s something causing outbound delay, where your game thinks it should hit, but there’s a delay sending that action, causing you to miss, though lag compensation should account for it usually.

You said your CPU spikes, that could delay packet transmission if your CPU is too busy with the game and starves it from networking. Find what’s causing high CPU, or look into “bufferbloat” https://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/bloat/wiki/What_can_I_do_about_Bufferbloat/

Also has same issue. Tried phone’s mobile internet (via USB), Ethernet, Wi-Fi 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Set all graphic settings to low, disabled IPv6, changed servers (was EU) Shots still not registering. Checked latency through Ctrl+Shift+N, receives all good. Mostly, I play on Illari, on her this “bug” very noticeable, cause she has biggest visual size of bullets. The funniest thing is that even in match review I see that Illari’s “bullets” moving through enemies. If it noticeable in match review it means that issue on server side, right?

My CPU and GPU works fine, yeah it old, but never has problems with those. Temperature always lower than 65°c. And I have Desktop, not the laptop. I noticed that after some minor update coming from around 27 december

This is exactly what I’m describing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxB3YkxcQqY&feature=youtu.be

Honestly I’m done because this is unplayable for me. I play many games that are similar to Overwatch and nothing like this happens in any of them.
