After playing Black Ops 4 , I finally see why overwatch is so terrible on console. You can tell overwatch is not designed with console in mind.
Aiming is noticeably 10x better than overwatch. It obviously takes into account that you can’t aim well with characters moviing so fast around you. It slows your curser down to allow you to actually be precise. This also slows you down making you more easier of a target while aiming.
Don’t get me wrong I think overwatch looks better, has better characters, I like the system. It was just not made with console in mind and it’s never been more obvious til I finally decided to play a different FPS for the ps4.
There is no contest on which game was designed better for console and also BO4 is so much more fun. Mostly cause like I said, being so much better made for console, it just makes it a much better gaming experience.
Wish they would redesign the game for console. At least fix the aiming.

Overwatch was built for PC.
CoD was built for Console.
This is why Blizzard doesn’t care if you play with Mouse and Keyboard on Console that is the way you are suppose to play it

Just without all the added in aim assist from doing this with console.
Blizzard’s first try at a fps game, Activision’s like…17th fps game…HMMMMMM

Overwatch on console is bad because blizzard almost dont put any specifict balance on console.
Pharahmercy on ps4 high ranks was a problem for like 2 years.
Anyway now the aim assist is a lot better.

confession time: overwatch was my first shooter.
i used to, and am still guilty of, ridiculing some console games for how “easy” their aiming mechanics are.
little did i know, i guess.
Um
Aim assist has always been a thing, and is in a lot of console games??
Overwatch was built around being on Pc, and being a console player I dont struggle at all. I know it would be easier on PC, but its not like console is a pit of absolute atrocities. Actually, because aiming is so difficult on OW compared to other games, my aim got a lot better overall. On Cod im pretty much a monster because its hard to miss bullets.

some games don’t have it, like Siege, other games due, like cod, but really…eh
Thats why I said a lot of games… not all

Since Blizz had no experience with FPS. It’s Treyarch that help them with aim assist.

Give them Blizzard time they may one day prefect it.
Guess I haven’t been spoiled on COD Blops, but never had much trouble aiming in overwatch on console.
If only Blizzard could ask Activison for help, I mean it’s not like they’re the same company or anything. HMMMMM

Initially they didn’t want a consul version, the devs wanted to avoid balancing 3 versions of the game… and here we are now. I do sometimes wonder if Overwatch will/should be reprinted for the next generation of consuls though.
I think Blizzard has done a great job with Overwatch on console. I feel like the aiming system is good and the keybinds are really good too. The only thing they lack would probably be console specific balancing and action against toxic behavior, but that’s not console specific.
I’ll tell you why aiming on console is bad:
A. Aim Assist/Control configurations are global across all heroes by default. What does that mean exactly? It means that in order for you to actually benefit from heroes like Zenyatta or Orisa, you are required to manually tweak your aim settings for those specific heroes. Let’s be honest here, the average console player won’t do that. Most people think and assume that the default controls are the best. When in fact, Overwatch on console offers a generous set of control settings and I think they did a great job with that. But they did a terrible job in not giving each hero their specific settings by default. (Unless they actually did, but since I tweak my control settings, I didn’t see that added.)
B. There is no aim button in Overwatch. What makes playing games like Destiny/CoD feel great is the Aim Button or ADS. Having an Aim Button would allow people to crank their sensitivity up to counter Pharah/Tracer and then use the ADS button to precisely aim when necessary. They could add that to the game, e.g. by holding L3 you get an alternative aim speed.
In my opinion, instead of having different hero balances between console and PC, I think that they should tweak controls so that the average PC player as a specific hero = average console player (accuracy-wise). And any player who never touched their control settings would get a new set of controls (while being able to swap to legacy if needed).
As a console player I 100% agree about the aiming system being blatantly garbage for console.
Every time I play destiny or battlefield I’m overjoyed at how smooth and precise the controls are, then hop back into overwatch and feel how unoptimized it is.
I think the largest difference is that most other console shooters have some form of ads with a separate aa, separate sensitivity, and deceleration mechanics.
In overwatch everyone is hipfiring with whatever handicap they feel comfortable with (dual zone, ramps). It just feels wrong, and the aa is just a mess.
That being said, I dont think any of that should have or should exclude the title from console. I just wish they’d done a better job translating the controls (and honestly just open support kbm already…).
Agreed. Overwatch on console is pretty decent, but, like many games this generation, suffers from high input latency. This is especially noticeable if you alternate between PC and console and play both with a controller. The PC version feels a lot more responsive while using identical controller settings.
Don’t get me wrong, the aiming has been massively improved since launch… although now to get decent settings is getting more complicated with new settings they add.
There are some characters you can do alright with on console… however there are many who are almost useless because another character counters them so much harder than they would on PC.
