Game doesn't start (Error: 0xE01200D0)

Hello there,

I woke up today trying to play Overwatch, after opening Battle net, Overwatch was automatically updating, then I started it, but got the error message: "There was a problem starting Overwatch. (0xE01200D0)
I was then looking for solutions and saw that a new Nvidia driver update came out, so I downloaded it, but the problem didn’t solve.

I googled the problem earlier and found a few solutions, such as deleting the Battle net folder, uninstalling GeForce Experience, looking for windows updates, restarting the PC, defragment my hard drive… I did all these things and I also un- and reinstalled Overwatch and Battle net 2 times, but I still meet the same problem.

Hope anyone can help me out here.

Thanks for reading.

I uninstalled Bullguard for the time being and activated windows defender again.
It finally works now. Hope they fix the Bullguard thing.

Howdy!

We have seen a number of reports of this issue from users running Bullguard Internet Security. If disabling the program or temporarily uninstalling it works. You may wish to reinstall and reach out to their support on how to make sure this program is fully setup to exclude Overwatch.

Thank you.

I don’t want to be rude or anything, but there has been no problem with Bullguard whatsoever in the past. This problem ermerged following the patch today. So it would seem the problem is on your side, not Bullguard’s.
Besides, if we reach out to Bullguard, will they even know what to do? I mean, they don’t know what you’ve changed in this patch.

I completely understand this view point CakemanLHK. It’s important to remember Anti-virus and firewall programs are protection tools. We constantly update our games, some times after an update the game maybe viewed differently due to changes. Anti-virus and firewall software should have an option to add safe programs, may also be called an exclusion list or firewall exception if the program has firewall features. These are to help with these exact situations and avoid them in the future as well. This is why we want to go this route first and if it works you shouldn’t run into problems moving forward.

I would recommend to add the Battle.net app to these steps just for future planning, along with the Overwatch folder to fix this issue as we are seeing reports for these users of this working. Steps on how to do this can be found Here. Firewall steps can be found Here.

The reason I suggested to contact their support is in the event you have any issues following the steps above and to ask for help making sure this security software is fully setup to exclude Overwatch and the Battle.net app from all features.

Thanks.

Hello Zuvykree!

If i am going to exclude Overwatch i need to know the folder / location where it is installed.
Which folder / location do i need to use?

I am also using BullGuard.

Howdy! The default installation location is: C:\Program files(x86)\Overwatch
If you moved it or want to double check. Go to your Blizzard app -> Overwatch tab -> Options -> Show in Explorer -> At the top of the Window you will see your file location on where you are.

Thank you.

Thanks for the help!

Hi. I have same problem here.
After the new patch, overwatch will no longer run on Bullguard Internet Security.
Another blizzard games works fine. Only way to play is to disable firewall. Its not good solution. I dont like to disable my firewall all time.

Hi
I have tried to do the suggested steps and added both Overwatch and the battlenet launcher to the list of safe programs.

I still get the error.

Hi
also tried the steps above. still having the same problems

LOL what you are saying is ridiculous. Antivirus messes up with the game. Doesn’t matter if it’s after the patch or not. If antivirus decided the code brought by the new OW patch is malicious, that’s still a false positive on the antivirus.

I have to Agree with Road here.

This shouldnt have happened with a patch update on the game. Other games are fine that I have but this is not

@Zuvykree

Got in touch with BullGuard already, BUT: I looked up BG-Firewall rules and Defender Firewall rules and both “Overwatch Application” and “Overwatch Launcher” have automated rules for allowing network connection.

So, the only way I can get Overwatch to work is by manually disabling the complete BG Firewall.

However, I also tried manually deleting the rule for “Overwatch Application” in BG and Windows-Firewall, rebooted and manually added them (linked to the correct Overwatch file), but that does not work either).

In addition: what @MayaKuro suggests, does not work for me. Firewall cuts network access instantly off when restarted.

Kind regards

Excuse me but how are you shrugging this off like its not your fault there was an update which stopped it working for BullGuard users. Maybe you should check what was in that patch. Also I checked and it said that it allows everything on Overwatch so try fixing it.
