Game crashes immediately

Hi,

Since the recent update I have been unable to play Overwatch. I have reinstalled the game as well as updating my graphics drivers. I have turned off any potentially problematic background processes.

I receive the following message: “The application has encountered an unexpected error.”

My report id is below:

Those report IDs are used for the ticket system, where staff can look them up with an internal tool.

If you want troubleshooting here, make sure your post includes a DxDiag.

Hey Peel4heals,

That is odd that the game is crashing after the update. I did have access to that tool to look up that code. They aren’t always helpful through the forums like this, yet in this case it did give a basic idea of what may be going on so thanks for including it here!

I suspect the problem is regarding an interfering program, specifically one that involves sound. There is another thread I saw earlier where Sonic Studio was causing Overwatch to not start and we’ve also seen reports of Nahimic causing problems. If you have either of those, can you try uninstalling them and restarting the system to see if that helps?

If it persists, it would be best to get a ticket in with some system information. You can also reference this thread so they know what was already called out and can also check that code.

I uninstalled Sonic Studio 3 and that worked for me. This still seems to be an issue with the new update, as I have not recently updated Sonic Studio. Might need to look into this, as I believe that is a sort of “baked in” program for many Asus builds.

Thanks, uninstalling the Sonic software worked for me as well.

Same here, Sonic Studio uninstall did the trick. Incidentally, this also solved issues with a few other games that were behaving similarly (Divinity 2, DOOM:Eternal). I also saw similar advice posted on an EVE forum recently. Many thanks.

Hey y’all,

Noticed several reports of uninstalling Sonic Studio working to resolve crashing in Overwatch. This is also true for any Nahimic product such as:

  • Alienware Surround Sound
  • Asus Sonic Studio
  • MSI Nahimic
  • Steelseries audio products

There may also be other products that use Nahimic software, these are just a few examples of common ones we’ve seen over the last few weeks. If uninstalling these products works to resolve the issue please be sure to reach out to the software provider to report the issue.

Thanks for following up with us. Cheers!

Okay. So, it wasn’t Windows 11 causing my issues. It was good old Sonic Studio. Well, thanks for clearing this up because I was just going to full reset my PC. Thank you so much!

Edit: @GhostDragon Sonic Studio did get updated. Just not the app. A background driver. Windows updates installed a Nahimic driver in the background which caused this issue. I checked my update logs and it coincides perfectly.

If it would help anyone, I have attached a screenshot with the exact updates that caused these issues. Please find it below.

Nevermind. I can’t attach screenshots. So, I shall type all three out.

Nahimic - MEDIA - 22.70.0.5
A-Volute - SoftwareComponent - 3.3.3.0

To Ironthorne and other forum users who replied - thank you very much for helping me resolve the problem. It was Sonic Studio.

Best Wishes to you all.
