Game connecting to foreign game servers

I live in Southern California, 15min away from Irvine and OW1 I got 20ms pings all the time. Now I’m getting pings typically 150ms - 250ms and rarely 20ms.

I confirmed a few servers I’ve played on the other day, I was connecting to a server in amazon in Bahrain, why am I connecting to a server across the globe?

My region is Americas, I’ve changed to Asia to test and I see get servers far away and it’s all over the map and I thought it was based of time and where I would connect. I just played two games and both I got 16ms, I couldn’t believe it. Is the problem fixed? Probably not as I’ve been having this problem for awhile.

Please connect me to local servers, the game experience is much better that way.

I’m experiencing the same problem.

I’m playing from Colorado, and being connected to the “gen1” server, or somewhere in Finnland. Ping is typically around 43, and it now doesn’t drop below 180. This problem started with the Lunar New Year update.

No VPN or lag-reduction type service is running. I’ve made sure to launch the game with the “Americas” region setting.

UPDATE: I tried launching in the Europe region and then re-launching in the Americas region. Was able to connect to a server in Los Angeles (guw2), but my ping is still way too high (around 80s), which I suspect means there was a closer server I could connect to in the past that is not currently available? Or the software is mis-directing clients to the wrong server maybe.

Bumping an important thread for visibility. This issue still persists and has put the game in a state that I have no interest in playing.

Just tried re-launching and got connected to ord1 (Irvine), with a ping sometimes averaging 60ms. Not horrible but definitely not ideal either. Re-launching continues to make irregular server selections.

Update - ord1 server has been able to get down to 47ms after a couple of minutes, which is the usual latency I’m used to. Still spikes to 60+ every so often, but otherwise totally playable. I’m still weary of odd server selections if the game is closed and re-launched.

I’m now blocking large range of IP and ports. I connect to a practice range, get the IP, verify the latency and add it to the firewall if it’s anything over 50ms. Close the game and relaunch and the past few hours I’ve been connecting to 40ms and a bunch of 18ms games. I will keep at this tonight as thats when I connected to far off servers that are on the moon.

Update:

I’m getting more local servers now, in the 20ms range. I will keep at this and I should be getting mostly 20ms games.
