Game completely crashes my computer

I have tried play for 2 days now and some times i can get through a game (no more than 2), but other times my game will completely freeze my entire PC and crash. I have scanned and repaired my game, uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing has worked. I also tried other games similar to see if it was an issue on my end (while checking PC Specs) and it worked fine. I could use some suggestions on how to make Overwatch from crashing my PC pls!

As software, Overwatch 2 cannot shutdown or crash your computer. It can make an underlying issue more apparent when trying to use hardware, but that’s it.

There are steps to troubleshoot this issue here:

I’ve been getting the same issue for about a month now, my PC crashes out of the blue while in Overwatch matches or custom lobbies. It’s the only game causing it to crash and reboot, and I made no recent changes to my PC prior to the crash issue.
I’ve updated Windows, tried both the latest and older graphics drivers, repaired and reinstalled Overwatch, tried using DX12 instead of DX11, tried using the Steam version instead of the Battle.net one…
My hardware does not appear to be faulty after several checks and considering every other game still runs perfectly fine.

Here is another player having the same issue since the beginning of March:

I’m guessing there is some kind of issue between the latest Overwatch versions and NVIDIA drivers?

I’m using a 4090 FE, 14900K, and 32GB of 7800 G.Skill RAM running at 7200 MHz. BIOS is also up to date.

So if the CPU ran before this BIOS update, it could still be the culprit. Every game will utilize the CPU differently, and Blizzard games are known for being CPU-heavy.

I made no changes to the PC before this issue appeared. My BIOS has been up to date for months now.

Regardless, I’ve used the Windows repair settings to reset my PC while keeping personal files (they were on a separate drive anyway). I was able to play demanding Overwatch custom lobbies (12 players and no-cooldown ability spam in a small room) for a while without crashing, so it seems this solved it for me.

EDIT: Crashes started happening again :frowning: Was able to seemingly fix it again by going into the BIOS and forcing the GPU PCIE slot to 4th Gen rather than Auto.
