Dang, Haven’t been on these forums in a long time. Oh well.
The thing that made Mercy viable was her mobility. 1.5 seconds is a looooong time when Tracer can close the gap instantly, now Tracer can do that, and also have an extra charge o’ Blink when she’s done killing you? She no longer pairs with Winston, no longer pairs with D.Va, no longer pairs with Doomfist, no longer pairs with Genji, no longer pairs with Tracer, no longer pairs with Echo, no longer pairs with Pharah; What is the dev’s vision for her at this point, exactly? Sit in the backline and just hope the enemy team ignores you long enough to slingshot back and forth over them?
When health is currency, mobility is king. And these clueless devs just relegated her to poverty. It’s idiotic.
What’s idiotic is a support having more mobility in the skybox than Pharah. That’s just broken.
I’d like to say I’m sorry that you need to learn some positioning now and how to actually play instead of just flying into the skybox 24/7 but I’d be lying.
Sure, we can talk about a nerf, but doubling it all at once is asinine. Incremental changes would’ve made sense if they were going to go that route, but slaughtering her viability? Nah.
What are you even talking about, “As Junkrat? Or Mei?” If you’re picking the wrong characters then yes, you have confirmed 100% that it’s a skill issue.
If that’s all you think she does then you can just say you’ve never been a good Mercy, it would get the point across much more succinctly.
It was 1 second. That is incremental. The problem with an ability that has next to no cooldown, even 1 second “is big” from a straight up percent number- But its still a small actual change.
Heres a big thing to keep in mind for mercy as well: Guardian angels cooldown doesnt begin until like 2 to 2.5ish seconds after using the ability. With the old cooldown of 1.5 seconds, it realistically like a 4 second cycle from the time shed use guardian angel once, before she could use it again. Now its a 5 second cycle.
And shes still highly mobile across all 5 of those seconds.
Its not like shes being forced onto the ground and turned into a sitting duck for any actual time.
She can still very much so GA to someone from like 20-30~ meters away, and then use super jump to go above, or past, or even back in the direction she came from, and then use angelic decent to just glide in the air, having GA back off cooldown before she touches the ground.
Add in the changes she got- And shes not been “slaughtered”, at all.
Im sure it feels bad having to actually wait 1 whole second now to use an ability that, in practice, basically had no cooldown- But thats not a slaughtering.
You know what’s idiotic- blaming GA and nerfing the GA cd. GA cooldown has been in the game for 6 years.
You know what’s not been in the game though til recently that new superjump charge meter. Put a damn cooldown on that meter and how often you can use it and maybe that would target the actual issue.
I can STILL stay in the air after these changes.
What allows her be in the air that long is the combination of a lengthy GA that charges her Superjump meter and using angelic descent.
By all means nerf her mobility but for gods sake nerf the right thing. Completely the wrong thing to touch.
Developers are idiots and clearly not one of them plays mercy.
The cooldown was never the issue. It has remained the same since the game first launched in 2016 I believe and was never an issue.
Then OW2 added a boatload of added movement tech ontop of it and suddenly it became way too much.
Maybe they should have nerfed the additional movement instead of the thing that has been absolutely perfect since launch.
This might just be my cynical side: But I think mercy players wouldve complained about this just as much if theyd done this. Any nerf to her mobility in any way wouldve had an immense negative reaction.
Actually no, I even suggested it in the other thread.
There are good reasons why normal GA need to be 1.5s without the extra mobility. However even then it would still be a nerf, since slingshot has been oficially available as a part of GA since 2017.
1 second is a 66% increase from a 1.5 cooldown, that number is huge. And you’re missing the point: She can’t pivot anymore. Look at the characters I named above. What context is Mercy playing in when she pairs with them? One second is enormous when you’re sitting on top of the enemy team supporting a tank or a dive hero. You need to pivot. Not just back to your team, but to cover. It is required.
The additional 1-2 seconds you’re talking about only exist if you’re jumping very long distances. That’s not what I’m talking about. Short jumps are essential to playing her well, and they killed that ability entirely. They most definitely made her a sitting duck.
Everyone always uses % numbers when the change is small but the % number is big because it makes it look scarier than it really is.
If i had 1 dollar, and increased my value by 100%, i wouldnt go bragging that increased my worth by 100%, because even at 2 bucks- Im still broke.
Its 1 second. If you want to make it sound scarier than it is with the whole “but its 66% :(!” go for it, but its 1 second. Her cycle went from 4ish seconds, to 5ish seconds, and shes still extremely mobile.
I get your point.
I just dont agree with ya.
Even at short distances, its still around 2~ seconds (And im aware of there being variance to it, which is why i ball parked it between a range).
Ya, no. Shes not a “sitting duck”. Shes still zipping around all over the place. Now theres just a 1 second moment where she has to slow down, instead of basically having no cooldown on her mobility.
Any group of people get pissed when their character gets nerfed but slingshot mobility nerfs are nowhere near as sore a subject as GAs CD that has remained the same for the entire games lifetime.
You haven’t really made a point here, you’re just being dismissive. That’s the exact opposite of making a good point, it’s actually the deliberate avoidance of it. Get back to me when you’re ready to try?
You are being cynical and doing the very thing I hate on the forums, which is lumping and judging all of us mercy off the few village idiots. Personally I hate it when it’s done on any hero and it’s done here all the time. It sickens me.
I would of gladly taken a nerf to the super jump meter or putting that on a cd. I would of gladly got rid of this new mechanic and have my old glitchy overwatch1 superjump back.
I have suggested that maybe GA should be slower in speed or maybe mercy’s hitbox is increased in GA so she is easier to hit.
I literally had discussions in detail on discords about the new issues in her movement and what could be done to balance it out but still keep fun and rewarding.
I have provided many suggestions and recognize issues within my main. So have MANY of us.
To those few mercy’s that would have complained on a logical nerf to movement- I think the majority of us mercy players would have called them out and kept it in check.
It breaks my heart what has been done to my hero. Worst change in mercy history. That includes moth meta.
Does nothing to target the actual problem, amplifies the issue of pocketing, kills synergies with certain heroes, and kills the fun of the hero.
One should know from the Moth Meta riots that overpowered doesn’t necessarily equal fun, and that apparently Mercy mains (just generalizing here) don’t seem to like too much change away from the original.
Also, the additional movement tech enables pocketing by allowing Mercy to have more freedom of movement with only one GA target.
So removing it would be more congruent with the other changes to her kit than increasing the cooldown, since the other changes seem to be an attempt at shifting her to a more “triage/team healer” playstyle.
