Full reset in stadium? why?

I was going to jump back into it but a full reset? who on the dev team thought that would be a good idea? you should probably rethink their position.

its a ladder, I get it it. apex doesn’t drop you to the very bottom. go down one or two ranks? sure why not. pro to rookie 5? absolutely not.

way to kill the mode guys. really, well done.

Yeah this is my biggest gripe right now. I’m stuck in gold which in almost all competitive games I can climb out of. But I’ve been up against legends and all stars from last season just getting so frustrated that I don’t get to go against golds in gold. Sure we’re all technically in gold but last season they were all star or legends. It’s just starting to bother me and makes me want to stop playing.

New season, fresh ranks.

If everyone just stayed where they left off, it would indefinitely say so many players are each rank regardless of whether they have played recently or not. There would also be less incentive to play if you already hit high ranks - you would just instantly get the new season’s rewards.

I already addressed that.

again, drop them down 1 or 2. forcing people to grind in a mode where wins count for significantly more than losses up until the top 2 ranks is just outright dumb.

if anything, forcing people to do the entire grind again gives them less of a reason to play. I dont want to roll golds for 8 hours again, I want to play against people of a similar skill level. you know, the entire reason of playing a ranked mode?

yeah I doubt most of them want to be in your games either dude. smurfing is fun for like an hour but it gets old fast. the devs are just not very smart.

Maybe they could give you some sort of boost based off of your performance during the previous season.

or just dont start everyone from 0 like literally every other game that uses a ladder system?

I booted up the game just so I could use my stats as an example. I ended pro 3 with a 74% winrate and it took 7 hours. 28 games won.
why would I want to do that again?

I’m pretty sure they actually do that. I’ll lose a game and lose like a quarter of the bar but win a game and I go up a whole rank. Well sub division.

There’s a hidden ELO-based rating that’s used for matchmaking under the hood. The ranks in Stadium are purely cosmetic, existing to give players something to grind for; and if you look at how many “rank” points you receive vs how many you lose in each tier, you’ll see that you keep going up with a 50% rate almost all the way to the top, it’s just a factor of time investment.

that’s not mmr, that’s just how the mode works. you gain significantly more than you lose. even in pro last season I was winning 150 and losing 50 (I think). the first 2 ranks losses don’t even result in a loss to your rank. the whole system is bad but the reset just killed any urge i had to play.

Pro takes like 3 hours to reach lol

Rank resets is what community implicitly asked for. People don’t like losing SR and so devs made the SR gain/loss balance such that on average you can get to all ranks but the very top by just grinding the game. And that’s bad because if left alone for a long time = ranks lose any meaning.

So devs have two choices = either make competitive - well, competitive and people having to actually fight for their ranks and risk being quickly demoted - or artificially reset ranks in one fell swoop avoiding the “in the moment” frustration.

OW1 in earlier seasons was made with the strong competitive mindset - it was very easy to lose your rank just from a bad losing streak. S1 and S2 were especially brutal and being “just” a diamond meant you were truly good at the game. Inflation simply didn’t happen because ranks cleaned themselves out and over a long enough period those who got to higher ranks just by luck quickly dropped out.

But people complained because in truth - far from every player in the competitive mode has a competitive mindset. People don’t like losing, people hate dropping leagues. Since the hardcore players are a tiny subset, the casual crowd won and ranks became mostly possible to grind, so = fast forward to the case then devs still need to make ranks meaningful but without the whole - you know - deranking thing. So now they just disguise it under “regular season maintenance” and force rank resets.

Yet again - folks got what they asked for and now surprised pikachu faces are going around.

I cannot tell you how much I despise this system.

If you’re going to say I’m bronze or silver, fine. Put me against bronze and silver players.

I shouldn’t be in silver playing against diamond and masters players that just haven’t grinded enough.

It’s a silly and stupid way to try and increase your engagement.

And as someone who has grinded up to Masters about 6 times now, I can say I’m sick of this mechanic.

  1. STOP WITH THE RANK RESETS
  2. Let us play against people of our skill

I worked my way up to Pro last season in Stadium, and gave up because the queue times and match making were horrible. I was slowly working up from Pro to All Star, but it just wasn’t worth my time.

I don’t mind waiting for a quality game, but the games are not quality.

I was literally in a game as Pro and the tank said this was their first time trying the role at all.

How and why is your system this bad?

my stats say otherwise but go off I guess

I get that but rank also means nothing when everyone starts at the literal bottom of the ladder.
drop down 2 ranks, give people something to climb but starting everyone from 0, again, is just dumb. it makes the rank you reach nothing more than an indicator of time rather than an indicator of skill.

the first one is objectively better.

then let them leave?

can you explain to me then, why regular ranked doesn’t just stick everyone in bronze every few seasons? because that is effectively what stadium has done.

yeah no, nobody asked for a ladder, no body asked to be reset to zero. you are confusing what people asked for in a long standing game mode and the new mode with a new system.

Yep. So, if they allow ranks to be grind-able, they mean nothing. And if they reset ranks, they will also mean nothing. The only difference is in frustration levels and the way it’s delivered. Seasonal rank resets are “passive frustration” = i.e. it’s like disliking a rule of the game but rolling with it anyways. Losing leagues and deranking is an “active frustration” - so people experience it every day.

So they chose the one with a similar outcome (i.e. pointless ranks) but lesser frustration levels. I guess that’s a … win?

I think it does? It also moves people many leagues down. So if you don’t climb up actively, you’ll get deranked after 2-3 seasons. Either way it’s a hamster wheel.

Still not that long :person_shrugging:

I’m all stars on one account after like 8 hours.

its near enough a full work day. not that long. that’s disingenuous at best and tells people you either don’t have a social life or don’t work at worst.
its also just 7 hours of smurfing that I frankly should not have to do.

Must be hard to be passive aggressive constantly, who hurt you?

7 hours in 2 months is not a lot, stop complaining just to complain lol

oh it wasn’t passive aggressive. I was calling you out. you just made a judgement about peoples time that I didnt like.

youre right. 7 hours in two months is not alot. lets say that someone only has an hour to of time to play every day though. thats a week where they dont really get to play the game against people that of a similar skill level. lets say they play regular ranked as well so that time gets cut in half. oh they play other games? cut it in half again and we are suddenly at half a season before you can play the game in the rank you should be in.

Its not hard to hit allstar legend is still a grind but dont complain about this its pretty easy to climb out the lower ranks

where did I say it was hard?

so we choose the middle ground that regular ranked does. like i said earlier, drop people 2 ranks down. give them something to grind but don’t force them to do the entire grind again.

you wouldn’t consider forcing people to play with smurfs an active frustration?

or again, they can do what they do with regular ranked…

no it does not. every 2 seasons it drops people 1, maybe two ranks. thats fine. they are not starting everyone in bronze again.
