Full Rank Reset

Blizzard should’ve fully reset the MMR and Ranks at the same time. There is no excuse for it especially when you add a whole new rank at the same time as these full fledge changes to the ranking system. Some triple A company I guess.

I mean if any of you expected Activision Blizzard to be able to do something smart to fix one of their games, you smoked something really good for that optimism. It’s a failed company with a toxic culture that was sold to Microsoft for waaaaay more than it was actually worth. And even under Microsoft it keeps doing what it does best and that is to lie through their teeth while they keep counting the enormous amount of money coming in from people who have yet to understand that paying for a bad experience isn’t how you drive change.

The rank reset was actually corporate speak for “we needed a way to drive player engagement so we decided you’d all have to grind your rank back even slower than before, also we wanted to reintroduce the unpopular rank decay and we called it a reset to give you false hope that the ranked ladder might be more accurate over time. Oh and get this…we really like how we’ve made the tank role so unfun that not even the 5v5 format can help with queue times anymore…so we decided it was time to squish the higher ranks downward so that the vast majority of players have MMR that is Gold, Plat, Diamond, and Masters. Bam! We really think that’s a genius move, except for maybe the catastrophic drop in match quality and the enormous grief it will cause to players who queue for competitive matches and end up getting quickplay lobbies that damage their rank.”

I mean the bar was low but holy crud on their part.

Let’s send the game into the dark ages… Good idea

IDK man, it looks like the game has plunged into the darkest of ages. Short-term band-aid solutions, turning Quickplay into a sweat-fest where people are flaming others for “diff”, ranked system where grouping with someone that’s the exact same skill tier as you down to the division and you’re only getting wide range matches spanning 10 skill tier divisions or 5 if you’re lucky, solo queue that punishes you hard the instant you win 3 or more games in a row for the sake of (getting you to a 50 percent winrate), making hitboxes the size of a tank for squishy characters, servers that desync players and boot them out of lobbies and then they get punished for something Activision Blizzard is responsible for, balance changes that are never informed by what the players say about what they want, content creators that are in the program and are yes men that pat the Team 4 executives on their backs and congratulate them for introducing even more things that disrupt gameplay (dps passive, more CC, heroes that have bad design that leaves little weakness, powerful abilities on cooldown with the push of a button, countered only by having the same exact hero in the opposite team) and limit choice (Counterwatch being too strong when it should be all about how you play and less about what heroes you choose to play).

And this is just a short list of things that indicate the game is in the worst state it’s ever been. Do some people still play? Yes, sunk cost fallacy and the fact that new players are unfamiliar with the fact that they will never be truly listened to and they’ll only be nudged towards buying from the shop. Queue times that are creeping up to levels only seen when the game was left to rot on a bad patch that, by the way, undid the only universally loved game balance. When Activision Blizzard sees players happy with a game (look at Diablo and WoW as well) they immediately change something to make it unfun again especially if that means people will have to grind or pay for something to make it more bearable.

It just doesn’t compute, this company keeps lying to its customers through the teeth and sooner or later people will move on. To be honest Activision Blizzard has not shined for well over a decade now, it’s just aged poorly like a woman with 100 cosmetic surgeries and botox injected on every single muscle. The artists hard carried the company into being purchased for a ridiculous amount of money by people with room temperature IQ at Microsoft who probably thought they were getting the deal of the century. It’s an even more shameful purchase than Nokia, and it’ll be written off sooner or later and almost everyone will be laid off or moved to some other part of the overall tech empire that Microsoft has.

It hasn’t. There’s just people on the forums moaning. As there has been since day one.

Most people are content. That content number will always go up and down. The games not in a majorly exciting spot right now, but it’s still mostly fine.

If you think they’ve lied to you. Uninstall and stop engaging with them. You’re big enough to make your own decisions.

This sounds like a good idea in principle, but it just makes the game horrible for a month

Why do you actually want a full reset? Introducing a premier rank above GM is irrelevant to 99% of the playerbase anyway

I have some bad news for you, every company is lying, about everything

You are right though, I was playing Blizz games in the early 90’s and while the crispness + quality is still there, there does seem to be problems with basically all their titles except SC

Something I don’t understand is your willingness to defend the company unpaid. Heck there are rumors you weren’t even able to keep your job as a community moderator at Blizzard but almost as if you developed Stockholm syndrome you keep coming back and trying to shoot down real criticism and downplay it as “just some angry forumers here and there”. Well if that’s your logic, why is your point of view valuable at all? It’s just ONE SINGULAR VOICE against hundreds and even thousands here and in other places on the Internet expressing their dislike for the company and what it has done to one of their favorite games.

And I should underline “company”. It’s all about the company, the people criticizing the company love the game as an idea or as a concept, and even some parts of the gameplay, or some of the skins the artists produce while being paid poorly compared to their peers in the overall industry. So you see, people are right about being disgusted about the company and especially the leadership of Team 4 and across Activision Blizzard. Microsoft also doesn’t have the brightest people as executives but that’s besides the point. Overwatch is something people want to see improved to where it can be magical, fun. Right now it isn’t, not by a long shot. And the numbers don’t lie… the game doesn’t even break even on the costs, even after the layoffs. The new monetization strategy is just hopium that the game can turn profitable, but monetization was never the biggest problem with OW2. Steam player stats is a relevant sample statistically speaking and it’s trending down as clear as day. And it’s something that execs or anyone else can’t spin because it’s near-realtime public information on a third-party platform. When the game launched on Steam the execs acted shocked by the reviews because they live in an echo chamber of yes men who fear for their job secuity, else there’d be heated meetings and a complete new strategy in play by now.

And on that “games not in a majorly exciting spot right now” is a poor take that just reeks of your undivided love for Activision Blizzard. Nope, the real take is that AAA (sorry. quadruple A in the case of Ubisoft) games aren’t doing well and that’s because they were not designed for the players, they were designed to milk the money out of players who put their trust into these companies and hoped that they would make great games like they once did. During the pandemic the room temperature IQ execs and the investors thought live service games would take over the world and generate enormous wealth for them and some did, yes. Many did not even make enough money to pay for their creation and now it looks like the market for live service is shrinking or simply stagnant. People are, however, playing a lot of indie games as well as older cult classics that remind them of what gaming should feel like. Indies with much smaller budgets and they somehow are a lot more polished and in another league in terms of fun. It’s not even close, AAA games look like they were rushed in pre-alpha stage, the only reliable thing they have is the cash shops which rarely if ever have issues, and those get fixed in a heartbeat while major issues that impact players and their ability to extract any fun are left unsolved for months or even years.

Nope, it’s not games in general that suffer right now, it’s just AAA games that were designed to be algorithmic carousels where everyone can win just about enough to be convinced to pay for something. Look at MW3, people paid full price to a MW2 DLC and they were greeted with the worst Call of Duty ever, worse than even Call of Duty Ghosts. Overwatch 2 was designed to be the Call of Duty for Overwatch players and it has failed in every single way possible. It’s just awful, the engine performs worse than the one they used in Overwatch 1, the server infrastructure keeps getting worse, the matchmaking is still not figured out after almost a decade of development, and so on.

Saying “uninstall and stop engaging with them” is just like saying to give up on anything because you can’t induce change. But look at the Helldivers 2 scandal, the players were able to speak up and they got what they wanted. Players who care about the game should absolutely voice their concern, if anything I feel like a lot of people stay silent because they don’t even know that they hold the power to do something in this matter or they don’t know they can vote with their wallets and not spend any money in the game if they feel like the company needs to change its tune and start listening to their needs.

I don’t (and can’t) have respect for someone who suggest people should just take what the companies do to their games and eat it. No, the answer is pressure, pressure the company until it bows and starts doing right by its customers. The more people that realize that they can indeed elicit change through their voice, the better it will be for all gamers. Accepting bad behavior from companies just teaches them to disrespect players even more because they think they can get away with it while raking it in.

Btw, have a look at Battlebit, three guys in their apartments made a better game than big budget companies who can’t seem to figure out matchmaking and hit registration.

Why is disagreeing always “defending the company”. Utterly tiresome counter point that just makes you look stupid.

Look, 2 people can have different views on things without you diving full into reddit buzz words. I know that is easier than just accepting someone has a different view.

I am not here to change your view, I literally couldn’t careless what you think. I simply said resetting MMR would be a laughably bad decision (because it would be and they have even said that would be the case themselves).

Someone can have a different view without defending the company that fired them. They can have a different view without bringing cheap arguments to the table or telling others they’re just “a few mad forumers”. You don’t respect others so stop asking for respect in return.

You seem like you’re mad about a video game.

Tip for you. If you keep talking about the game, you are doing what they want from you. You are their puppet.

If you don’t like something about the game. Uninstall, disengage, move on. Don’t give them the fuel.

There is zero point getting annoyed about it.

Nope. I play plenty of other games, Overwatch less and less only to keep up with what’s changing and see if there’s any positive trend. But you literally called me stupid in a previous comment and then suggest that I allow the company to keep stabbing the game I want to see improved. Not gonna happen, that just tells companies that there are lots of pushovers out there that accept anything. Not annoyed at this point, just disappointed, mostly about the fact that there can be people defending the company while not clocking in at HQ and getting paid. No, companies like these can and should be hammered into doing the right thing. You not playing their game and not saying anything isn’t going to bring anything about. It’s the most ridiculous thing ever, do you do the same with issues in your home town? Do you just pack and go somewhere else every time there’s a solvable issue with how it’s being managed? Ridiculous beyond belief.

Out of interest, how do you think a full mmr reset would have been better, than the soft reset we got?

Dude come on… Comparing OW to this is like comparing it to GoldenEye 64…

Your points aren’t invalid, the consumer should be the biggest voice, but you are fighting a losing battle, for all the comparisons you made let me make one… Imagine writing to Clash of Clans and asking them to change their practices… Good. Luck.

With the into of OW2/BP system they are making more money than before, unless the game literally dies, there will be no substantial change, I think the same as you in a general sense of ‘let’s stop playing so the changes happen’, but for me + you there are 50x people who don’t give a sheet and just play 45 mins a day and buy pretty skins…

If I had to hypothesise, it’d allow for placements to be more fair. Everyone has an equal opprotunity to be in a higher rank, especially considering that we got a new ranked introduced. It’d make calibrating a lot easier and climbing wouldn’t be as nightmarish as one would think. It’d only be a nightmare for people who aren’t mechanically inclined and it’d sort out queing with other people a lot simpler. Say someone was hard stuck silver/bronze. They have the ability to prove to themselves that they are better than where they’re at. And to be honest that’s mostly true. A lot of silver/bronze players are like gold/silver players stuck in a lower rank all squished up. Plus I’ve noticed from the account of other people that ranking up is so much easier on a fresh account it’s quite infuriating. Once it levels out after a month, things (hypothetically) should be much more balanced in the long run. (Glad we could have an open discussion about this rather than hear people go, “Nuh uh”)

The matchmaking is in the dark ages. Most people hate it, they just don’t bother to create a forum account and voice it, but if you ask them about it, or point out the matchmaking they’ll either say it’s bad or they’ll realize it’s bad. I can randomly bring up in matches “you guys ever notice wild win and loss streaks, especially when you get to a new tier” and suddenly people are like “I thought that only happened to me” and “YES wtf is that??”

Blizz must think that because people are quiet that they’re happy with it which is what is wrong with devs, they won’t do what’s right until a hoard of people complain, instead of being proactive about it.

Blizzard doesn’t care about the few players that see through the BS and lies. The company cares only about streamers being good dogs and serving their masters who send payments their way in exchange for managing PR. Blizzard also cares about cash flow, and the only way to change their tune is to cut the money vein that feeds them.

Tha fact your here EVERYDAY in defense mode against the majority of posters/post says a lot about who/what your are. My guy wrote a well established thought n here you come. All hail blizzard, at this point you should live on mute, go find some companionship irl

You can tell from his beliefs he more than likely has failed at life. lol he could even keep a forum mod job :man_shrugging:t4:

It sounds like you believe golds are stuck in bronze. If you’re asking for a full reset, literally everybody would be the same rank. Wouldn’t that be the worst case scenario for the “gold stuck in bronze” scenario?

Not only would these golds be stuck on bronze teams, they would also be stomped by higher ranks who would all be in the same games.

With a soft reset, there would be fewer high rank people in those bronze games and the golds should win games where they are the only gold or another gold ends up on their team. This extra win percentage should help push them towards their true level.
