Hello!
I recently purchased OW for PC and started playing. I am almost diamond in console and I didn’t too bad for my first games on PC.
After a day I looked for the best mouse DPI and sens in various websites and I was shocked to find out that I was using a very high DPI and sens!
I have a Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum set at 3200 DPI and the default sens of 15. I found out having an eDPI of 48,000 while most pros recommend a value between 4500 and 5500.
I tried lowering it down to 800 DPI and 6 sens but I was not even able to do a 360° using my mouse pad. How can it be? I am too slow!
Am I missing something?
Thanks
Why do you need to do a 360? Trick shots?
Seriously though, get a big mouse pad and set your sense so you can 180 comfortably in a swipe.
Basically you end up making 180’s with your arm and making small corrections with your wrist/arm. Heck sometimes I even fingertip on Widow.
I play on 800/4 Which is on the low end of the spectrum. I think guys like IDDQD are even slower though.
I usually prefer a higher dpi but lower in-game sense. Try 1200 and adjust from there.
It may take weeks to be adjusted to a new sensitivity too so be patient with yourself. Keep playing around till you think you’re comfortable and then practice from there. Even now, I have found a comfortable DPI but I will gradually lower my in-game sensitivity. I went from playing at 25 in-game sense, and now I’m currently at 8.5. My DPI is 1800.

So I should only be able to reach 180° with one swipe? I am really new to FPS on PC but it seems so slow. I can’t defend against a Tracer or a Genji, how do I do it?

Ok, maybe I should start from 3200 / 15 to something like 1200 / 10?
Why shold I keep the DPI so low?
Thanks!
Typically, it comes to the style of aiming. Many players use “arm aiming” where you’ll see they have large mouse pads and they use arm motion to get those wide turns. It’s also typically better than wrist-aiming (smaller movements, higher sensitivity). There’s many high ranked wrist-aimers but from experience you tend to fatigue a lot faster.
Then there’s many of us who alternate upon the situation. But again it comes to preference. It sounds like you might prefer to play at higher sensitivity and wrist-aim. Since you’re new to PC, this might be fine but you’ll experience physical fatigue a lot. I also used to wrist-aim a lot since I never really played FPS games before Overwatch.
I got used to arm-movements and lowered my sensitivity and dpi over a long period of time. So like I said, be patient with yourself! Find what’s comfortable for you to start and over time you can adjust gradually to be able to be more precise.

I have my dpi at 800 because that’s what I like on my pc. Even with 2 monitors it’s fine. Half my mouse pad in movement crosses both screens .
Very nice answer thanks! I will try to arm aiming with a bigger mousepad!
But what about Tracer and Genji, how can I counter them?

I use a dpi of 800 and a sens of ~12. I’m not 100% happy with it but I’ve been too slack to fine tune it properly. I used to have a mouse pad with a physical measurement of a 360 degree turn with the sens I liked back when I played huge amounts of counter strike but I stupidly lost it.
Like other people have suggested you should probably also figure out the way you prefer to aim with a mouse, Palm, Claw or Fingertips. https://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/gaming_mice_gripsbehaviourand_motion_explained,1.html
The size and shape also matters for your mouse depending on how you hold it and your hand size.
A good tracer or Genji can be tough! With PC being faster paced, you’ll have to predict their movements on here. Communicate with your team to punish a tracer / genji that’s in the backline. I personally love to deal with them as McCree but it can be tricky. If Genji is deflecting you can flick down at his feet and throw a flashbang especially if he’s jumping up like a lunatic. Elusive Tracers might be hard to kill, but if you can keep them running away that should be enough.
The lower your sens, the better. I have one of those Razer Goliathus mouse pads which has quite some space to arm swipe decently, my sensitivity is low enough so that a wrist only movement at most will only rotate me about 90 degrees tops, I used to play on a much higher sensitivity but it made it very hard to play hit scan characters.
My current sens is 650dpi and I think 10 sens in-game if I remember, I could potentially lower it but I’ve not found much issue with actually hitting shots now, I also “claw” my mouse which I’ve found helps me personally, and I don’t do any weird positioning with my keyboard and mouse as some people may do (such as the guy in the first video link).
As far as being able to 360 in 1 swipe (especially if you’re only wrist aiming)…you honestly shouldn’t need to, if an enemy gets behind you then at tops you only need to 180 and then quickly reset your mouse position to re-adjust your aim onto the enemy.
What I will say is try starting off by playing single player shooters of some sort while gradually lowering your sens (or do the opposite and go crazy low and gradually go higher till you find a sweet spot), since you’ll be playing without the pressure of other players and instead an AI, you’ll be able to more calmly and gradually get used to aiming onto an enemy, it’s what I did at least anyway and I’m glad I did.
Also watching these may help a bit:
800 DPI with 4.75 sens.
would never go higher at this point. have even toyed with the idea of lowering sens to 4
I have my DPI set to 400 with an ingame sense of 4.5. Many years of FPS on PC experience. The reason for such low sensitivity is so you can be more accurate. You want to be able to do a 180 with a swipe easily. After the swipe you either act on the person behind you or reset your mouse. It feels very slow at first and it will take time getting used to. But I promise you once you get used to it, it will feel very natural and it will help with your aiming. I recommend getting an xtra large mousepad. one that can generally fit both your keyboard and your mouse, with enough space for your entire arm to make fluid movements.
But ultimately its whatever you are comfortable with. If you practice enough with low sens and find yourself not excelling. go back to what you were doing. There is no secret formula with sensitivity that will make you better that everyone thinks. Its literally a mechanic to customize how you play
tweak is to that u can do a perfect 360 from accross the pad
Thanks! I didn’t know about these types
Is arm aiming better than wrist aiming? Do pros all use arm?
Ok, I understand this. But why DPS so low instead of lowering sens?
sry late response. DPI is lowered because you are lowering the actually “sensitivity” of your mouse in general. a 3200 DPI mouse set to 1 sens is like setting a 400 DPI mouse to probably 30 sens if I were to guess. Its easier to find the sensitivity at a lower overall sensitivity.
Ok, that makes sense! So isn’t the mouse less precise with lower sens?
No, if you think of the mouse sensitivity as a grid, then the lower the sensitivity the denser the grid lines (or the more “samples” per degree on screen). A lower sensitivity will improve accuracy and consistency, but lower your aim reactivity and movement. I’d recommend using 800 DPI and 6 for a while until it feels normal, using wrist for small corrections and arm for large movements. Once this feels comfortable, start testing other sensitivities like 800 / 4, 5, or 7 until you find one that clicks with your playstyle.
I used to play with really high sens but eventually I toned it down.
But if the shock is too much for you I actually took mine down in steps, going from really high, to in the middle to finally low.
